When I started hosting food experiences a decade ago, I hoped to share a taste of my culture and create a few good memories. I never imagined it would lead to moments like the ones I’m experiencing today.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve welcomed incredible travelers from all over the world into my food experiences.

But lately, something deeply moving has been happening. Those same couples and travelers from years ago are now sending their adult sons and daughters to my experiences as they embark on their own adventures with friends.

To look across the table and see the next generation trusted to me by the people I hosted years ago...is the ultimate honor. There is no greater compliment than a parent saying, "When you go there, you must visit Vivian. You'll be safe, and you'll be treated like family."

Thank you for trusting me with your most precious memories, and now, with your most precious people. Here’s to the beautiful cycle of travel, food, and lifelong connections!

Avli, is a living time capsule of working-class Athens.
Hidden behind an unpretentious, graffiti-lined iron door, this narrow courtyard once served as a classic laiki katikia (communal housing complex) during the mid-20th century. Decades ago, low-income internal migrants, laborers, and local craftsmen moved into the small, budget-friendly single-room studios flanking the alleyway. With no private amenities, residents shared the central open-air backyard 'the avli' which naturally transformed into a bustling, communal living room where neighbors cooked, washed, and shared their daily lives.
Today, the historic property operates as an iconic, ⁠makeshift local tavern managed by its owner, Takis, since 1985. The old studio entrances have been preserved as distinctive blue doors and shuttered windows, maintaining the nostalgic architectural charm of a bygone era. Squeezed between whitewashed walls, patrons sit at oilcloth covered tables to enjoy traditional, simple meze like handmade meatballs (keftedakia), pan-fried liver, and fluffy omelets, all accompanied by retro Greek music and a truly authentic atmosphere.

The Church of Saint Catherine serves as a literal structural bridge between two eras. This 11th-century Byzantine landmark was built directly over the remains of an ancient Temple of Artemis.

The coexistence here is practical, not just symbolic. The ancient columns and marble fragments aren't just ruins, they are the physical foundation of the site. It’s a clear visual record of how Athens consistently uses its past to build its present.
