WHY ARE WE SO EXCITED ABOUT GEORGIAN WINE?
Well, Georgia has a long and rich history of wine, with some of the oldest evidence of winemaking being found here, dating back some 8000 years. Known for an intense style of wine, characterised by extended skin contact and aging in massive amphora, known as ‘Qvevri’

Kept separate from most of the western world historically by its mountainous terrain, and in modern times, Soviet repression, we are only just fully beginning to understand the vinous riches the country has to offer. However, we do have Georgian influence to thank for some of the great skin-contact wines of the world, such as those made by Josko Gravner and Giusto Occhipinti who after visiting Georgia, brought back the traditional Georgian Qvevri vinification to draw inspiration for their own winemaking.

La Cabane have put together an absolute face-melting line up of Georgian bottles for our little Khachapuri party, and we cannot wait to rip some corks with you this weekend.

We are starting to get very excited for our little party this Sunday - expect the wines the wines to be flowing and the good times thick in the air. We feel the excitement brewing, so thought a little explainer was in order ⬇️⬇️⬇️

WHAT IS KHACHAPURI?? Khachapuri is a type of Georgian cheese bread, which comes in many shapes and sizes. We are paying tribute to arguably the most famous version, Khachapuri Adjaruli, which is boat shaped, filled with A LOT of cheese, an egg yolk (or whole egg) and butter. 🥚🍳🧈

Now, our riff will be a little different - cooked in a neapolitan style oven, with a neapolitan style dough - and with a slightly different cheese mix as Georgian cheese is (surprise) thin on the ground here in HK. So if you love Khachapuri - be warned - it will be different, but it doesn’t mean it won’t be straight-up delicious. 🍕🍕🍕

WHY KHACHAPURI? Georgia has some of the most interesting wines in the world, but they NEED food. So what better way to showcase these amazing wines than by a tribute to their rich and exciting food culture. Are you excited? We are 🍷🍾🍷
