The two new cuvees from Radikon finally in Hong Kong!!!

POP: what, where, when and why: In the last years we have increased the hectares, also in the nearby Slovenia; here some vineyards have different varieties then the ones we were used to work with, for tradition. This made us want to get back into the game and try to give the best interpretation to this situation. From Ivana, the youngest of the family, who has never seen the border as a restriction, but rather an opportunity, come out the idea of a wine dedicated to the border and to all the people who have lived and crossed it. A young and popular wine, in fact, hence the name POP. Two blends, one white and one red, which contain all the different varieties planted there, local white grapes and international red ones, like a symbol of all the different peoples who have passed and will pass again. Radikon POP: cross the border!
Region/soil/vineyards/viticulture: Just few kilometers from our base in Oslavia, all vineyards are in Brda (Slovenia), the “other side” of Collio – Friuli Venezia Giulia. The soil and the weather are the same: good temperature range and often rains (1200/1300 mm/year) are alternate to a good wind that dries the vines right after. The soil is also here called “ponka” or “ponca”, a particular type of compressed clay/marl of Eocene period, rich in minerals. Quite all vineyards are exposed to South or South/East on sloping hills full of grass. The density is high, but few bunches per vine allow to keep an extremely low quantity of production. For treatments we use only cupper and sulphur and only if needed some cover crop. The idea is to balance the soil with low-intervention actions, promote biodiversity and restore a more natural shape of the hills (while replanting a vineyard when needed), limiting erosion and landslides risk.
Wine-making: After taking off the grape stalks, the grapes ferment spontaneously on the skins for 2 days (no temperature control or any added yeasts), then the fermenting must goes to the stainless-steel tanks for about 10 months, where also the malolactic fermentation happens. In the meantime, more than one racking could be necessary.
Racking in bottles: The wine is bottled with a little addition of sulfites in bottles of 0.75 liters. The bottles rest some months in the cellar before selling.
