Precision is a choice.

She could let everything pass.
But Mama Rambu chooses to sort.

One by one.
With patience.

In Pangrorean, every bean is examined —
and not all are kept.

Because quality is not what you process.
It’s what you refuse.

The result is an Arabica with a cleaner cup,
defined sweetness, and consistent character.

This is not about how much you produce,
but how much you are willing to reject.

Tongkonan Qufe — where character comes before volume.

Meet Mama Sri — one of the women behind our Robusta Mengkendek. 🌿

In the highlands of Toraja, she farms with patience — and chooses with precision.

Many harvest everything at once.
Mama Sri doesn’t.

She returns to the same trees,
picking only what is ready,
and leaving the rest behind.

Less harvest. Better coffee.

That is why she is trusted
to keep the quality of Mengkendek.

Through her hands, coffee is not only grown —
it is carefully chosen.

Empowered women.
Honest coffee.
A better future for all.

She carries more than coffee

A child on her back
A future she cannot put down

Each day, she walks to the farm—
not because it is easy,
but because it must be done

Some days, the harvest is small
Still, she brings it home
Little by little, she keeps everything alive

What you taste in this cup
is not only coffee—
but the strength to continue

She is called a champion
because she never stops showing up

In Tampo,
strength looks like this

This is
Mama Langi’
Champion of Tampo Origin

Not everyone can walk fast. But not everyone chooses to stop

Her steps are not as fast as they used to be

Since the injury, she moves more slowly

With a stick in her hand, she still walks to the farm every day

Following paths she has known for years

The land is not large—about one hectare

But that is where everything is kept alive

Some days, the harvest is not much
Not even a full basket

Still, she gathers them.
Little by little

Not because it is easy,
but because there is no reason to stop

In Gasing, stories like this are not rare

Through
Sustainability Lot – Arabika Gasing
we aim to ensure farms like this continue to exist

Among those stories is
Mama Yuliana
Champion of Gasing Origin

Sebelum menjadi secangkir kopi,
ia pernah menjadi bunga

Tumbuh di pegunungan Toraja,
menjadi buah merah yang dipetik satu per satu,
melewati proses panjang,
dan akhirnya sampai di tangan kita

Di balik setiap cangkir kopi
ada alam,
ada petani,
dan ada perjalanan yang tidak sederhana

Hari ini kita tidak hanya merayakan kopi.
Kita merayakan semua yang tumbuh bersamanya

Selamat Hari Kopi Nasional
11 Maret

Not all women stand on stages.
Some stand in coffee fields.

Their hands pick coffee cherries one by one.
Slowly. Carefully. Every single day.

The world may never know their names.
But from their hands, coffee travels far.

At Tongkonan Qufe,
many of our coffee farmers are women.
Mothers. Caregivers. Providers.

They are not only growing coffee.
They are growing futures.

Today we honor them.
The women whose quiet strength nurtures life.

Happy International Women’s Day.

— Tongkonan Qufe

Harvest is not only about crops.
It is about women who wake before sunrise,
about hands that work with dignity,
and about blessings earned the right way.

What is meant for us will never be exchanged.
But the way we pursue it defines our legacy.

May the 2026 harvest season bring prosperity
not only to our farmers in Toraja,
but to every life connected through this journey.

Because at Tongkonan Qufe,
coffee is not just a product.
It is peace, purpose, and shared impact.

Tongkonan is more than a house.
It is where values are preserved and passed down.

Qufe is more than coffee.
It began with a 10-year-old girl
who asked one simple question:

“How present is God in our business?”

From that question, we learned
that business is not only about profit,
but about blessing.

Born from the land of Tana Toraja,
from family, from process,
Tongkonan Qufe exists to be a home
for Tana Toraja coffee.

We do not only brew coffee.
We brew peace.

Tongkonan Qufe
Brew Peace.
Because bitter can be better.

Coffee Buying and Selling Journey from Upstream to Downstream

1. From Upstream

“Every coffee bean that grows in the fields is the result of the farmers’ hard work. There, fertile soil and the right climate are where our coffee begins to tell its story. From the skillfully hand-picked beans, we take care of the quality from the very beginning so that the coffee we produce has an unparalleled flavor.”

2. Processing

“From the field, our coffee beans are processed with care-from picking, to washing, to drying, to curing the perfect bean. This process is not just a matter of technique, but also an art. At every step of the way, we ensure that our coffee is ready for further processing with maintained quality.”

3. Delivery to Processors (Factories):

“Using safe and timely transportation, our coffee beans reach the hands of competent processors. Here, the beans are expertly roasted to create a unique flavor profile. Each roast is carefully designed to bring out the best aromas and flavors that will delight the palate.”

4. From Processor to Brewer:

“From the factory, the roasted coffee beans are then properly packaged and ready to be delivered to the market. Whether it’s for coffee shops, restaurants, or retail, we ensure that our products are kept fresh until they reach the hands of the brewers. This is our coffee journey from upstream to downstream.”

5. To the Consumer:

“Every sip of coffee you enjoy is the fruit of a long journey that starts in the fields, processed with love, and served with dedication. We don’t just sell coffee, we offer an experience-bringing you a taste of the quality that comes directly from the roots of coffee culture.”

Preparing to plant some coffee seeds, which will take 5 years to turn into productive trees.

❓Why do we plant a variety that we know will cup around 95 points as a natural or other cool process but which will produce very little coffee yield?
It’s economically more effective to plant another variety.
So is it a labor of love?
Yes to some extent, but more than anything it’s about trying to make a positive impact through high-cupping coffee.

Maybe a roaster will get a bags of Qufe, making our efforts with rare varieties more worthwhile. For most farmers and their workers who are all part of Tongkonan Qufe, it’s a job we do to support our families, to earn a living and to in some cases prosper.

To be able to afford studying. To be able to provide food for our families. To be able to get through a health emergency.

Whatever the reason you’re excited about our numerous high-cupping coffees, thank you roasters for carrying them and an extra special thanks to all the incredible people who make these coffees a reality—from the picker to the wet mill worker, the person moving the coffee on raised beds to the members of our team hulling, doing analysis, sorting and packing. It takes whole communities to produce such awesome coffees.

Tongkonan is a traditional ancestral house found in the Toraja ethnic group or tribe of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. These houses are characterized by their unique boat-shaped roofs, intricate carvings, and elevated wooden structures. The Tongkonan serves as the focal point of Torajan cultural and spiritual life.

Torajanese believe, the Tongkonan is not just a physical dwelling but also a sacred space where ancestral spirits reside. It is believed that the spirits of deceased family members continue to watch over and protect the living family members in the Tongkonan. The spiritual significance of the Tongkonan is deeply rooted in the Torajan animistic beliefs that honor the connection between the living, the dead, and the natural world.

The Tongkonan plays a central role in various Torajan rituals and ceremonies, including funeral rites, weddings, and harvest celebrations. These ceremonies are conducted to honor and appease the ancestral spirits and seek their blessings for the well-being and prosperity of the community.

Overall, the Tongkonan represents the Torajan people’s strong reverence for their ancestors, their spiritual connection to the natural world, and their cultural identity. It serves as a symbol of continuity between past, present, and future generations, embodying the rich spiritual heritage of the Toraja tribal group.
