Before the vanilla beans reach the production line, there is a process behind them

Once the green vanilla beans are harvested, they are carefully washed before moving into further processing.

Washing is an important first step to clean the beans from soil, plant materials, and other foreign matter that may have come into contact with them during harvesting and handling. Starting with clean beans helps prepare them for the processing stages that follow.

After washing, the beans move into boiling and killing, foundational steps that prepare the green beans for curing, the stage where the beans undergo gradual changes that develop their characteristic aroma, flavor, color, and texture.

Each of these steps requires careful handling and attention to detail. From the initial preparation of the green beans to the curing process, the people involved play an important role in maintaining the quality of every batch.

It is this combination of process, experience, and careful handling that helps shape the vanilla beans we deliver.

From our facility to your flavor 🌿

From Indonesia to the U.S.

Indonesian vanilla has been part of our journey for years, from working with farmers and sourcing beans to processing and preparing them for international markets.

Our facility is registered with the U.S. FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), marking another step in our journey toward the U.S. market.

For us, this is another step toward making Indonesian vanilla more accessible to buyers around the world.

Why are vanilla beans so valuable?

It starts long before the bean reaches the market.

Here are 6 factors that influence vanilla bean quality and value:

β€’ Pollination: Vanilla flowers have a short window for successful pollination, often requiring careful hand pollination.

β€’ Maturity: After pollination, the pods need months to develop before harvest, providing the foundation for the curing process.

β€’ Harvesting: Beans must be harvested at the right stage, as the condition of the green bean can influence the outcome of curing.

β€’ Curing: Killing, sweating, drying, and conditioning transform green pods into the dark, aromatic cured vanilla beans used in food applications.

β€’ Quality: Length, moisture, appearance, texture, aroma, and flexibility all contribute to the final specification and value.

β€’ Manual Work: From cultivation to sorting and packing, vanilla production requires significant human attention.

A cured vanilla bean represents not only the final product, but also months of cultivation and detailed post-harvest work.

Not every application needs the same vanilla grade.

For food manufacturers and ingredient buyers, choosing the right grade is about finding the characteristics that best fit the final application.

β€’ Grade A : When appearance matters

Higher moisture content, with plump and supple beans and a more uniform appearance.
Well suited for applications where the vanilla bean is part of the product experience, such as premium ice cream, desserts, bakery, and products featuring visible vanilla bean specks.

β€’ Grade B : When extraction is the priority

Lower moisture content, with characteristics well suited for processes where the vanilla is extracted or infused rather than presented as a whole bean. Commonly used for vanilla extract and flavor infusions.

β€’ Grade C : When formulation efficiency matters

Lower moisture content and greater variation in appearance, making it practical for applications where the visual appearance of the bean is less important. Often used in industrial processing and formulations where vanilla is incorporated as an ingredient.

Each grade has its own characteristics and purpose. The right choice isn't about which grade is better, it's about which grade fits your application.

Every vanilla bean is the result of a carefully managed process, and air drying is one of the most critical stages in producing consistent, high-quality vanilla.

After curing, vanilla beans are gradually air dried to achieve the optimal moisture content. This process is carefully controlled to:

β€’ Reduce moisture content to the target range while maintaining bean flexibility and appearance.
β€’ Improve shelf stability by limiting conditions that encourage microbial growth during storage and transportation.
β€’ Minimise the risk of mould and other moisture-related quality issues.
β€’ Preserve the supple texture expected of premium grade vanilla beans.

The objective is not simply to dry the beans, it is to achieve the right moisture balance. Too much moisture can lead to spoilage. Too little moisture can make the beans brittle and reduce their quality.

At Rendah Vanilla, we don't rush the process, quality takes time. We believe every stage deserves the attention and time it requires. From sourcing and curing to drying and quality control, every step contributes to the final product our customers receive
