Hatten Wines was established in 1994. The family owned company is 100% Balinese and proud to be known as Bali’s Original winery.
The family started with the production of rice wine “Brem” in the 1960’s, a version of the famous Arak. The factory is still in operation next door to Hatten Wines in Sanur, Bali. The Owner/Director I B Rai Budarsa has a degree in agricultural engineering and is involved with all operational aspects of Hatten Wines.
The wine maker and Managing Director an Australian National - Mr Don Buchanan has over two decades of experience running successful wineries throughout Australia and abroad. Obtaining a degree in Oenology, at the world renowned Roseworthy College in South Australia his career expands to working for famous Australian wineries, which include: Karadoc, Lindeman, Leo Buring, Kaiser Stuhl, Krondorf, Buchanan Wines, Arrowfield, Tisdall, & Hopwood which is an Indonesian owned winery in Australia.
Don has won many awards, medals and trophies for his wines which include white wine awards: Bacchus Trophy, Qantas Trophy; Red wine awards: Jimmy Watson – which he has won twice. He has also won the prestigious Winemaker of the Year award.
Hatten Wines – meaning “progress”, has over 100 staff , employed in the 3 main locations – The vineyard, 14.5 hectares in Singaraja on the north/east of Bal; the winery in Sanur and the Distribution office in Simpang Siur, Kuta.
The winery is located close to the main business centre, in Sanur and is fitted out in stainless steel to maintain cleanliness. The winery has a horizontal press, over 20 large wine tanks, fermenters, a bottling room, and a laboratory.
The distribution office and tasting shop “Cellardoor” is located on the Bypass in Simpang Siur, Kuta. It is opened from Monday to Saturday.
Hatten Wines Alexandria white wine received international recognition, winning the Bronze medal at the 2003 UK wine show. The sparkling wines have won several local awards.
Recently voted in the top 10 for fastest improving producers in Asia, Hatten wines are proud of the fact they are a 100% Balinese company and committed to international standards of quality and taste. The leaders in local wine making, Hatten Wines are known as the pioneers in Bali wine.
Hatten Wines are featured in the majority of establishments in Bali, Java and outer islands and distribute to Europe. A main focus of the company is to train hotel/restaurant staff on wine styles with emphasis on wine tasting, serving and storing.
In 2007 a second range – Two Islands was introduced, creating four new wine styles: Two White wines: Chardonnay and Riesling and a selection of two Red wines: Shiraz and Cabernet Merlot. The grapes are grown in the cooler climate of Australia, the juice is then transported to Bali where vintage takes place at the Hatten winery in Sanur.
