A very special new arrival at Abbeyleix House and Farm.

We are delighted to welcome a beautiful baby alpaca boy to the estate! Mum and baby are both doing wonderfully, and he has already been exploring the world on his long wobbly legs.

There’s something incredibly special about seeing new life arrive on the farm, especially on a peaceful summer’s day like today. We can’t wait for guests and visitors to watch him grow over the coming months.

A special mention to Paul from who has been incredibly helpful with guidance and studs 😊

This gorgeous arrangement is the first harvest from our kitchen garden this summer.

Fresh strawberries, crisp radishes, vibrant lettuces, herbs, courgettes, spring onions and edible flowers, all picked by Kristine Andrejeva straight from the garden this morning. There is something incredibly special about seeing the first real signs of summer arrive in the form of fresh produce grown just a few steps from the kitchen.

The kitchen garden is slowly coming to life again, bringing with it the pleasures of seasonal eating, colour, flavour and connection to the land around us.

Did you know that one native Irish oak tree can support hundreds of insect and wildlife species?

Every spring, our oak trees burst into leaf just as caterpillars begin to emerge. Those caterpillars then become one of nature’s most important food sources for tiny blue tit chicks.

In fact, blue tit parents can feed thousands of caterpillars to their young during a single nesting season.

It’s a remarkable example of how nature works in perfect balance:
Oak trees → caterpillars → birds → healthy biodiversity.

This is why native Irish woodlands are so important. The trees, insects and birds have evolved together over thousands of years, each playing a vital role in supporting the next.

Sometimes the smallest things, like a caterpillar on an oak leaf, are part of something much bigger.

** ONE WAY ONLY – PARK LANE ACCESS**

Patrons accessing the Park are reminded that Park Lane, from Main Street, is strictly a 10km one way for motorised vehicles / Resident Access.

Vehicles must not exit the town via this lane and must instead exit the Park via Morans Lane / Ballacolla Road, located at the Tennis Court end of the Park.

Even better if people access the park using the same route

This measure is in place to provide a safer pedestrian and cycling route for children travelling to and from the town.

Thank you for your continued co-operation.

Did you know Icelandic horses are well-adapted to Ireland’s changeable weather? 🇮🇸🍀

Having developed over centuries in Iceland’s harsh and unpredictable climate, these remarkable horses are naturally hardy, resilient and comfortable in wind, rain and colder conditions. Their thick winter coats help protect them from the elements, while their calm temperament and sure-footedness make them adaptable companions.

Our Icelandic horses have settled beautifully into life at Abbeyleix House and Farm and continue to charm everyone who meets them with their unique personalities and smooth, distinctive gaits.

As a special surprise for this year’s Family Day, our equestrian team and Icelandic horses will perform a special display immediately after the Pony Club display on Sunday, 14th June.

It promises to be something very special and a lovely opportunity to see these extraordinary horses in action. They still hold the record for best hair on the estate!

SOME PLACES ARE difficult to put into words, not because there is nothing to say, but because what makes them special is something you only really understand when you are standing in them.

That was my experience the first time I arrived at Abbeyleix House and Farm. Long before the house was built in the 1770s, the land had already been shaped by the Cistercian Order in the 12th century, farmed carefully, with animals at the centre of daily life.

How thoughtful care in places like Abbeyleix House and Farm helps animals move beyond survival mode.
