When we opened our doors 20 years ago, it was a very different time, Irish fishmongers were still a visible part of every town.
Over time, consumer habits changed. At the same time, the cost of operating a small food business rose dramatically — staffing, energy, insurance, compliance, and day-to-day overheads all increased year after year.
This decision has not been taken lightly. It feels less like a choice and more like the result of long-term changes that have reshaped the food retail landscape. While this marks the end of our current retail setup, it does not mean the end of our fish being available locally.
Thanks to Marie, Gerry and their team in Supervalu Ashbourne it means the same quality seafood our customers know and trust will continue to be available — locally, conveniently, and with longer opening hours than we were ever able to offer as a independent fishmonger.
We are incredibly grateful to every customer who supported us over the years. Your loyalty kept us going far longer than the economics suggested we should. Your loyalty meant more to us than we can ever properly express.
We hope you’ll continue to support our products in their new home — and see it not as an ending, but as a change in how we get our fish to you.
