Cheese? NOPE. It’s a substance called ‘ cheese analog’ - which is basically melted lard, powdered milk, and colours and flavour added. I’m finding this used in a few delis in town - don’t be afraid to ask them to check that the cheese that’s going in your roll is listed as real cheddar cheese on the packet!

Free from Mocha Beans Ballina for the elderly or homeless.

📣 FREE SOUP AND TOASTED SANDWICH 📣
With the current cold snap that’s currently gripping the nation and anticipated to reach -10 temperatures we thought it might be a good idea to offer free Soup and Sandwiches to any of the elderly or sick around the Ballina area that may be stuck in their house and can’t get out due to the frost.
We can deliver these to their door free of charge just to keep them going untill the frost is due to clear on Saturday.
We don’t like the idea of anyone going hungry so if there is anyone you know that might need this then please let just let us know by private message or call our coffee house on 096-75783.
Also this is available to the homeless, so if they have not heard about this, please let them know to call in to us and we will take good care of them.
If there is anything we can do to help deliver messages to the elderly, Sick or Homeless also during the Christmas Period just drop us a line.

Our culinary journey took us today to Waterfront House Enniscrone - where we chose Battered Hake and chips. The hake was thick and fluffy, and the batter was just perfect, light and crispy. The chips were enormous and tasted like they’d been fried in goose or duck fat. The portion of chips was a tad on the small side, we counted only 8 - but the waitress was happy to oblige us with some more. It was served with cream of peas and home made tartare sauce served in an oyster shell.
Dessert was home made tiramisu with pistachio ice cream AND cream. The seating area overlooks the sea front, and you’ll need to book in advance as it seemed pretty busy at lunch time.

I visited a restaurant this evening I wasn’t even aware existed - located on Market Square Poacher Restaurant is more fine dining than casual with an extensive menu of mouth watering experiences. The vibe is cosy yet formal and the food is cooked to perfection. There’s lots of unusual flavour additions to the main courses which make the meal so much more interesting to eat and they source lots of local and national ingredients.
It’s a wonderful place for date night or a special treat and we wish them every success in their business.
We recommend booking in advance especially on the weekend as it seemed pretty popular.

We get it, we really do - business are having to raise prices and cut corners, especially in this time of crisis with the cost of everything, especially in the food sector.
But charging 4.99 to customers for this miserable excuse of a chicken fillet roll with nothing on it but a small piece of chicken on dry bread with a sprinkle of cheese is unacceptable.
SHAME ON THE DELI IN BALLINA WHO SERVED THIS, your reputation will suffer because people do talk about a bad experience. Commiserations to the poor customer who purchased it and opened it at home!
When you’re ordering food at a deli counter folks, make sure to watch the server make it up in front of you on the spot, don’t be afraid to ask them to do it to your liking too.

Morans Butchers and Deli have this FANTASTIC idea that saves them waste and you money. Grab these chicken carcasses any day there for making stocks and soups.
(Also - their deli counter is now in my top rated delis in ballina, great value for money and they aren’t scrimping on quality like many others are doing right now.)

Attention all moms!
This is a hidden gem- the corner cafe Is situated at the far end of super value, bunree.
We popped in for lunch a few weeks ago and the fish and chips were FAB, for only €10. Light batter, not dripping in grease like some places, fat chips, coleslaw and beans came with it too. We left jolly happy!
They also have a beautiful space for children to have parties, fulo of things to do ( see video below) - they don’t charge extra for the room, you just pay for the food - and these days I’m sure you’ll agree that’s a bargain!
