Meet Olivia and Barry Leech, Co. Meath 🏆

Olivia and Barry were recognised as the Kepak Suckler Animal Finisher Award winners at the ICBF Beef Quality Awards 2026.

Sourcing high-quality heifers, maintaining strong herd health and carefully managing cattle through to finishing, Olivia and Barry have developed a successful system that consistently delivers excellent carcass performance. Their Commercial Beef Value (CBV) results also highlight the benefits of stronger genetics, with higher-CBV heifers finishing earlier, producing heavier carcasses and generating greater factory returns.

Unfortunately, Olivia and Barry were unable to attend the awards ceremony, with Adam Kilmurray accepting the award on their behalf.

Congratulations to William McGrath and family, Co. Cork, inaugural winners of the Suckler Beef Gene Ireland User Competition at the 2026 ICBF Beef Quality Awards!

William farms alongside his wife Maeve and their children Katie, Michael and William, running a commercial herd of approximately 85 suckler cows.

The McGraths have used 100% AI for the past 20 years, with Gene Ireland genetics forming an important part of their breeding programme. Their strong focus on genetics, fertility and efficiency has helped the herd achieve an impressive 378-day average calving interval in 2026.

Meet the 2026 Dawn Meats Group Dairy Beef Finisher Award winner, Olwyn Owens!

Based in Kilkea, Co. Kildare, Olwyn Owens operates a specialised dairy-beef finishing enterprise at Grangenolvin Farm, combining careful cattle selection, performance monitoring and home-grown feed to achieve strong finishing results.

Olwyn believes successful beef finishing starts with buying the right animal and takes a hands-on approach, sourcing cattle herself through local marts and closely monitoring performance throughout the finishing period.

Meet the 2026 ABP Farming Suckler Farmer Finisher Award winner, John McCormack!

Based in Co. Clare, John McCormack operates a suckler-to-beef enterprise centred around approximately 115 suckler cows, with all progeny retained and finished on the farm. The system is built around functional Charolais and Simmental-cross cows, high-index stock bulls and a strong focus on herd health and genetics.

John's finishing figures highlight the performance being achieved, with young bulls recording an average carcass weight of 430kg, an average U- carcass grade and an average finishing age of just 16.9 months.
