Maize silage completed last week, we are thankful all went so smoothly and we never seen a drop of rain throughout harvesting or hauling to the clamp. It will be available over the winter months to help replenish the fodder deficit, mainly in the south of the country. DM anaylsis will also be available upon request.

Week 8 of harvest ✅️🌾

Thats a wrap for the season, all the bales are lifted from the fields and into storage for the incoming winter months. It was one of the driest summers in living memory and straw was baled in A1 conditions, we had plenty of challenges along the way but overall a successful campaign!
The big concern going foward is fodder shortages in the south and south east of Ireland and the UK. We backloaded haylage down to livestock farmers in Wexford this week who are already sourcing winter feed in August which is unheard of! There is going to be demand for all feed stuff including fodder beet, silage, maize, hay, straw and meal in the coming months. There will need to support packages put in place by DAFM to supplement the haulage with white diesel nearly €2/litre and this is a wide spread issue from Cavan to Cork. The north and northwest of Ireland is widely unaffected. Farmers are already reducing herd numbers by culling baren or lame cows in an attempt to reduce the winter forage requirement and they are hopeful for a light cut of grass in September to ease pressure. We will keep an ear to the ground in the coming weeks and help where we can.

Week 6 of Harvest 🌾

After a challenging week of breakdowns with one lorry losing all its all its coolant on the side of the motorway and a near miss with a fire started beside a 500 bale stack, we are thankful for everyones help from 2 different mechanics to get us going and a good friend helping recover us off the side of the road at short notice! The winter wheat is all finished up and baled and the spring barley is currently being harvested over the weekend. All that will leave will be some spring wheat next week, the weather outlook still looks settled for next 7+ days in the southeast and midlands so all the straw should remain dry with very low moisture! We will continue to put straw into storage over the next 2/3 weeks to ensure a strong and steady reserve of stock of quality straw for the coming winter months!

Week 3 of harvest!! ☀️🌾😎

We are in the rhythm now nicely with the trucks working steadly up and down the country. The winter barley is all cut and baled in bone dry conditions, the oilseed r**e is currently being cut with the winter wheat next and then spring barley in 10 days time. This year is the best irish straw we have ever seen!

Due to the increased input costs this spring associated with establishing all tillage and hay crops-

There has been many famers and merchants buying any remaining bales of last years 2025 stock in an attempt to save money as this years forage will be more costly. This may not suit everyone depending on storage/cash flow but if this is an option for you, we would highly consider it. We have some stock remaining but are limited. These are tricky times for all businesses and we understand the difficultly we are all facing. If we can assist in anyway drop us an email/phone call.

Out supporting farmers, contractors and hauliers at one of the national fuel protests in Sligo City today. The Irish Goverment currently take Carbon Tax, Excise Duty, National Oil Reserve Agency (NORA) and VAT totalling 63% on every litre of diesel! Other diesel prices in European countries :
