Killruddery House and Gardens Nourish the senses in this calm, open space - an ideal environment for fun, well-being and creativity
(531)

Killruddery House & Gardens has often been described as a wonderful place to escape for a great day out and has been home to the Brabazon Family (the Earls of Meath) since 1618. Located on the outskirts of the capital where Dublin meets Wicklow, it’s a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. In the 1820s, the 10th Earl of Meath engaged the services of architects Richard Morrison and his son William to remodel the house. Although the house was greatly reduced in the 1950’s, much of the Morrisons’ design and architecture still remains. Today, Killruddery House is one of Ireland’s most beautiful and successful Elizabethan-Revival Mansions and plays host to a varied calendar of events throughout the year. Killruddery Gardens are the oldest in Ireland surviving in their original 17th century unique style along with some 18th and 19th century additions. The Estate is a popular location for many well known films and TV series including My Left Foot, Angela’s Ashes, The Tudors and Camelot. Keep up to date with Killruddery by visiting our website

SCARECROW AVENUE COMPETITION

As the leaves begin to turn and autumn settles over Killruddery, it’s time to bring a little magic to the avenue.

Our annual Scarecrow Avenue Competition is returning, and we’re inviting you to dream up a scarecrow of your own. Perhaps a woodland wanderer, a mischievous garden guardian, a harvest-time character or something wonderfully unexpected…

Scarecrow kits will be available from the Farm Shop from the 23rd of September, ready for you to take home and transform into your very own autumn creation.

Once your scarecrow is dressed, decorated and ready for the season, bring it back to Killruddery Farm Shop by 23rd of October to be displayed along the avenue and be in with a chance of winning this year’s competition.

Our judging panel this year is Killruddery CEO & Creative Director Fionnuala Brabazon, Farmer Tom Jenkinson and David from Me & The Moon, who will be looking out for winners in three categories:

Most Creative - for the scarecrow that captures the imagination
Scariest - for the one that sends the biggest shivers down the Avenue
Best Made - for exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail

So gather your straw, find your old hat, raid the button tin and let your imagination wander…

Who knows what wonderful characters will appear along Scarecrow Avenue this autumn?

MUSHROOM HUNT AT KILLRUDDERY

As the leaves turn gold and the woodlands settle into their autumn hues, we’re delighted to welcome Bill O’Dea back to Killruddery as part of our Autumn Flower Studio series for our annual mushroom hunt and forage on the 25th of October.

Join Bill beneath the autumn canopy as he leads us into the fascinating world of native Irish mushrooms - uncovering their ecology, identification and folklore, while sharing stories and insights into woodland biodiversity, sustainable foraging and our ever-changing Irish landscape.

After the woodland walk, the foraged treasures will make their way from forest floor to kitchen, as our Head Chef Niall O’Sullivan joins Bill for a seasonal cooking demonstration. Together, they’ll bring your finds to life alongside cultivated mushrooms from Ashford Mushrooms and fragrant seasonal herbs gathered from the Killruddery Gardens.

We can’t think of a better way to spend an autumn day at Killruddery.
