Today we found our very first bit of natural regeneration on the farm — a tiny oak sapling growing on its own. 🌱

We believe it actually came from one of the oak trees we planted, which makes finding it even more special. And to find it with Erin lying beside it makes the moment all the more meaningful. ❤️

One of the big reasons we bought this land was to restore it back towards natural mixed broadleaf woodland. Creating a place where native trees, wildlife and biodiversity can thrive for generations to come.

We’ve planted hundreds of trees, but seeing one of them start to reproduce naturally feels like a real milestone. It’s a small sign that the woodland is beginning to become more than just something we planted — it’s starting to grow and renew itself.

It’s only a little oak today, but hopefully one day Erin will stand beside a whole woodland and remember this as one of the first trees. 🌳❤️

Some of my happiest memories are by the water with a fishing rod in my hand. This weekend, I bought Erin her very first fishing rod, and we spent some time "practising"... although if I'm honest, there was probably more playing than fishing!

Growing up, I didn't have anyone around me who hunted, fished, foraged or lived that way. Learning those skills wasn't always easy, and I had to figure out much of it myself.

But there is one person I will always be grateful to—my mum. She had no interest in fishing herself, yet she never once complained about the early mornings, the long drives, or waiting for hours while I sat by a river or lake. She simply saw something her son loved and did everything she could to help me follow that passion. Looking back now, I realise just how much those small acts of kindness meant, and I honestly don't think I'd have the love for the outdoors that I do today without her. Thank you, Mum.

Now it's my turn.

Whether Erin grows up to love fishing or decides it's not for her, I want her to have the opportunity to experience it. I want her to understand where food comes from, to appreciate nature, to respect wildlife, and to know that food doesn't simply appear on supermarket shelves.

These moments aren't really about catching fish. They're about spending time together, making memories, learning patience, and passing on skills that have been part of human life for thousands of years.

Here's to many more adventures together—even if most of them involve tangled line, missed casts, and plenty of laughter.

Today was a special day here at Mac Aodhagain Farmstead as our Christmas turkey chicks arrived! 🦃

Erin couldn't wait to meet them. In true Erin fashion, she introduced them to her teddy... who then had the important job of giving every single little chick a kiss! 🧸😘

Moments like these remind us why we love sharing life on the farm. Watching children build a gentle connection with animals from such a young age is something really special.

This year's cauliflower harvest has now been blanched and frozen, ensuring that none of the hard work from seed to harvest goes to waste. Blanching helps preserve colour, texture, flavour, and nutrients before freezing, making it one of the best ways to enjoy homegrown produce long after the growing season ends.

This photo shows the final result: a mountain of cauliflower ready for the freezer.

Every operation needs supervision, and the boss was on hand to make sure everything met her exacting standards!
Seeing this year's harvest packed away is a reminder that farming isn't just about growing food—it's also about preserving it and making the most of every crop. From the field to the freezer, it's been a good year for cauliflower at Mac Aodhagain Farmstead.

Happy Father's Day to the main man himself from the furbabies and our little farmer in training! 🥬🥦🫛🥔🥕🍅

Beneath the curved and sheltered glass,
We watch the gentle seasons pass,
Hand in hand, step by step we go,
To watch the seeds we planted grow.

You teach me how to tend the soil,
The quiet joy of honest toil,
To water rows of vibrant green,
And find the magic paths between.

From tiny sprouts to leafy vines,
Our backyard world beautifully aligns,
Learning where our food comes from,
In this warm haven we call home.

With two green pea pods in my hand,
Grown from the earth of this rich land,
I look at you with pride and cheer,

At Mac Aodhagain Farmstead, we believe childhood should include muddy boots, dirty hands, wet clothes, and plenty of fresh air.

Today's video is of Erin doing what she does best—jumping into puddles, getting covered in mud, and having the time of her life. While it might mean extra washing for us, these are the moments that build confidence, resilience, a love of nature, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Sometimes the best childhood lessons aren't taught indoors. They're found in muddy puddles on a farm.

Rhubarb is one of those crops that goes from “nothing yet” to “we’re drowning in it” very quickly this time of year 🌱

Well… we’ve officially hit that stage 😅
We’ve more rhubarb than we know what to do with, and rather than see it go to waste, we’re offering it out.
