Great village
Ballyconnell sits at a natural crossroads in west Cavan, where the Woodford River meets the Shannon–Erne Waterway, linking Lough Erne to the River Shannon.
It is a town shaped by water, trade, and in more recent decades, industry, with a population that reflects both deep local roots and newer communities who have chosen to make their lives here.
Once a small market settlement, Ballyconnell expanded significantly during the late twentieth century, particularly through the economic influence of local businessman Seán Quinn, whose enterprises brought employment and growth to the area through the 1990s and early 2000s.
