IHFA Young Members Association

IHFA Young Members Association It is open to everyone (aged 26 and under on the 1st of January) who is interested in Holstein Freisian cattle and the Irish dairy industry.

The YMA (Young Members Association) is the youth section of the IHFA (Irish Holstein Friesian Association) for all people up to and including the age of 26 on the 1st of January. The YMA conยญsists of a National Club, which is the umbrella group covering fifยญteen regional YMA clubs that corยญreยญspond to the IHFA regional Senior Clubs.

With just over a week to go to Emerald Expo 2026 we thought it was a perfect time to publicise our annual Stock Judging & Reason Giving Competition held at the event!

Weโ€™re delighted to be running our Stock Judging & Reason Giving Competition at Emerald Expo once again this year!

โœจ What a fantastic day we had at our IHFA Spring Workshop โ€“ our first YMA event of 2026!๐Ÿ„

Now that the dust has settled and all photographs are uploaded, weโ€™re delighted to reflect on what was truly a brilliant day.

A huge thank you again to the Doran Family for so generously hosting us and for providing such a warm welcome and superb facilities throughout.

Weโ€™re also incredibly grateful to our workshop leaders โ€” Brendan Greenan, Paul Boal, Damien Storan, Maria Burke, and Rachel McNamara โ€” for sharing their time, expertise, and passion. From choosing your show calf to washing, clipping, showmanship, and stock judging, the skills and insights passed on will be invaluable as we head into the season ahead.

It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm, engagement, and energy from everyone who attended. Events like this are only made possible thanks to the continued support, dedication, and teamwork of our members and volunteers.

A huge thank you to the Doran Family for so kindly hosting us and providing such a welcoming and well-run facility.

Weโ€™re also incredibly grateful to our workshop leaders โ€“ Brendan Greenan, Paul Boal, Damien Storan, Maria Burke & Rachel McNamara โ€“ for sharing their time, expertise, and valuable insights in their respective fields, from selecting your show calf to clipping, washing, showmanship, and stock judging, the knowledge passed on will benefit everyone involved as we head into the season ahead.

It was great to see such enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day and such a fantastic turnout.

We are absolutely thrilled to share that our amazing group of YMA members who travelled to the HYB Rally last August and WON the B TEAM Trophy โ€” were officially recognised on Sunday Evening at the ๐๐ž๐๐ข๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ž ๐€๐ฅ๐ฅ-๐’๐ญ๐š๐ซ ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐๐ฌ! The team consisted of Sarah Shannon (Cork Club), Hannah Greenan (Breffni Oriel Club), Will Jones (Slaney Club), Kevin Smith (Cork Club), Manus Murphy (Carlow Kilkenny Club)๐Ÿ†

This nomination alone was a huge honour, but seeing our young members celebrated on such a prestigious stage was truly special after many years of dedication to putting YMA "on the map"!โœจ

A massive well done to our fantastic team โ€” this is a huge achievement not only for yourselves but for our Young Members Association as a whole! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ซ
