🌱 A nice bit of recognition for the work happening at Future Orchard recently.
We were shortlisted for the Lord Mayor’s Community & Voluntary Awards 2026 in the Climate Action and Sustainable Development category—alongside some brilliant Cork groups.
From our apple rescue network (saving nearly 2 tonnes of apples and turning them into over 1,000 bottles of juice 🍎) to our micro orchard, biodiversity projects, and hands-on workshops, this nomination recognises the power of community-driven climate action 💚 [echolive.ie]
Thanks as always to everyone involved 💚

How can we light our streets and paths without disturbing wildlife and our sleep? We're on a mission to do just that!
Our new lighting system is biosensitive and Dark Sky friendly. We're launching it on April 15th, the day before the lights go off completely for the summer.
To celebrate both the light and the dark we'll be joined by residents, Cloughjordan Dark Sky group, our lighting designer Kerem Asfuroglu, Dr Niamh Roche of Bat Conservation Ireland and others who've been part of our lighting journey.
The evening ends with a specially commissioned nocturnal soundscape by Evergreen Chase-Joy and stargazing in the Dark Sky Bowl.
All welcome.

A few years into our project we planted a Heritage section of 27 varieties of Apple. It was done on the day our member @ Jarleth McGrath R.I.P. would have celebrated his 40th birthday. Sadly, this year, over a decade later another member, of that days hard working crew, has also departed. Fair-de-well Joe Sheridan, loving husband and father (The Pigs Back - Douglas).

🌍 Climate Change & Ireland’s Environment – World Meteorological Day Webinar

As weather patterns shift and seasons become harder to predict, many of us are wondering how these changes will affect Ireland’s landscapes, wildlife and coasts.
Join us on World Meteorological Day for an engaging online webinar exploring the impacts of climate change on Ireland’s physical environment and natural world.

We are delighted to welcome:
• Bernadette Connolly from The Environmental Forum, who will discuss the physical impacts of climate change on Ireland, particularly along our coasts. Topics will include coastal erosion, tidal flooding, and what these changes may mean for our local areas.
• John Armstrong, ecologist with Nature Network Ireland, who will explore how climate change is affecting our natural environment, including changes in species ranges and the risk of extinctions.
🗓 Date: 23 March 2026
⏰ Time: 7:30 – 8:30 PM
💻 Venue: Online (Register below - a link will be sent closer to the event)
This promises to be a thought-provoking and informative talk, with time at the end for questions and discussion. If you have burning questions about climate change and its impacts, we would love you to join us.
