Moneymore 2 - 3 Newtown United
Moneymore U15s welcomed Newtown United on a fine evening for football, and the two sides served up an entertaining and closely contested encounter.
The visitors edged a tight first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the break after both teams battled hard and created chances in an evenly matched contest.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with little to separate the sides. Newtown doubled their advantage when a direct through ball resulted in their second goal, leaving Moneymore with a mountain to climb.
However, the home side responded positively. Captain Morgan rallied his teammates and injected fresh belief into the side. The response was immediate as Daniel produced a fantastic individual run before finishing superbly to pull a goal back for Moneymore.
The match remained tense throughout, and Newtown appeared to have secured the points when they scored their third goal. But Moneymore refused to give up and set up a dramatic finale when Isreal found the net in the closing stages.
Despite a spirited late push from the home side, Newtown held on to claim a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
Moneymore can take plenty of positives from a determined performance, while Newtown deserve credit for securing the win. Best of luck to Newtown for the remainder of the season 🤝🏻
