A rare look inside the making of The Donn 🥃

Inside our maturation warehouse, guests were invited to taste The Donn across its journey, from new make spirit through to the finished whiskey, experiencing first-hand how flavour and complexity are shaped at every stage.

From the influence of cask selection to the precision of maturation, each sample revealed another layer of the craft behind one of the world’s most awarded single malts.

Following its recognition as Single Malt Whiskey of the Year, we’re taking you inside the making of The Donn.

At just 6.9 years old, it challenges one of whiskey’s oldest assumptions, that time alone defines quality. Instead, it is shaped through a progressive cask journey. By varying cask size and fill levels, we play with oxygen exposure and wood-to-spirit ratios, accelerating complexity and developing layers of flavour within the same maturation period.

This is not about ageing longer. It’s about understanding how wood interacts with whiskey, and knowing when it has reached its peak.

From a vision to world’s best🏆

In this video three years ago, Founder and Master Blender Jay Bradley spoke about what The Donn would become. Today, that vision is realised.

Whiskey of the Year 2024 • 2025 • 2026 – three consecutive years winning at the highest level of global competitions.

This year at London Spirits Competition, 43 of the world’s leading spirits authorities decided the result, among them: Stephanie Macleod – Master Blender at Bacardi, Billy Leighton – Master Blender Emeritus, Midleton & Pernod Ricard and Craig Wallace – Head of Whisky Creation & Master Blender at Diageo.

Together, the judges combined scores delivered 96 points (Double Gold) and named The Donn Single Malt Whiskey of the Year.

What makes this achievement exceptional?

It was bottled at just 6.9 years old. In a category traditionally defined by age, this is a rare outcome and a reflection of our approach to whiskey making. The Donn is crafted through six distinct cask styles, varying in size and fill level to precisely control oxygen, wood interaction and flavour development.

What a week celebrating St. Patrick’s Day 🍀🥃

Between sponsoring Soho Whisky Club’s annual St. Patrick’s Day party, travelling to Coleraine, Ireland with some of our clients for an exclusive maturation warehouse tasting and hosting an intimate masterclass back in Soho, it’s been quite the week, full of great whiskey and great company.

Before whiskey was anything, it was Irish.

Irish whiskey was once the most sought-after spirit in the world, a benchmark of craftsmanship, exported from Ireland to every corner of the globe. Today, on St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrate not only where it began, but where it is going.
