π₯§ GUR CAKE β’ FRUIT SLICE β’ CHESTER CAKE β’ RUNAWAY CAKE.
Born in Dublin's bakeries over 100 years ago, as old as Mellon's Shop. Bakers mixed leftover cake crumbs, bread, dried fruit, spices and a little magic, creating a delicious slice that became a favourite of school kids, workers and families alike.
Known around Ireland as Fruit Slice, Chester Cake, Gudge and even Runaway Cake, every name comes with its own story and memories.
For some, it's a taste of childhood. For others, it's a reminder of trips to the local bakery with a few coins in your pocket.
So tell us... what did your family call it? π
And what stories can you share about Gur Cake?
We'd love to hear them?
