After dead bats were discovered inside the tank, blocking the outlets and affecting water flow to the showers, our InDepth Water Management team got to work.

The tank was drained, thoroughly cleaned and sterilised before being refilled.

Take another look at the photos. Those are 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐬 inside a cold water storage tank.

The customer contacted us after noticing irregular water flow from their showers. When the attic tank was inspected, the cause became clear: the tank outlets were being blocked by the bats’ bodies.

Our InDepth Water Management team drained the tank, thoroughly cleaned and sterilised it, cleared the affected system and refilled the tank.

Most people rarely think about what's inside their water tank until something goes wrong. In this case, irregular shower flow was the warning sign.

These before-and-after images show the results of a recent fresh water storage tank cleaning and chlorination carried out by InDepth Water Management.

The large modular tank was accessed through a floor hatch, requiring full confined space entry procedures, including a tripod and winch system throughout the works.

The tank was thoroughly cleaned, chlorinated and refilled and the difference is clear.

When the existing walkway bridge to the valve tower was condemned, the project team needed a safe alternative to access the tower and complete essential inspection and maintenance works.

Working closely with our Health & Safety team, a pontoon and access-platform solution was developed to provide controlled access across the live reservoir.

With space at the top of the tower limited to one person at a time, careful coordination and crew rotation were also required throughout the works.

The project was completed safely and on schedule, demonstrating how practical problem-solving and careful planning can overcome even the most challenging access constraints.

With the reservoir taken out of service, the first phase is to remove sediment and debris from the main cell, inlet sump and associated manhole, exposing the concrete structure and internal pipework ready for repair.

Once the structure has been thoroughly cleaned and dried, cracks and joints will be prepared, repaired and sealed before two protective coats of Sika® 6100 FX are applied to the floors and walls.

Combining specialist Jet-Vac equipment, confined space expertise and a carefully planned programme of works, the project will prepare the reservoir for refurbishment and its return to service.

Our engineers are on site today carrying out the chlorination of a 120m section of 110mm HDPE water main using specialist dosing and monitoring equipment.

Before a new water main can be brought into service, it typically undergoes swabbing, pressure testing, chlorination, flushing, dechlorination and microbiological sampling to help ensure it is ready for service.
