What began as an obsession with coffee, became something bigger. I wanted to learn more about where it came from, and who the people behind these coffees I loved so much were. This love grew into the determination to make a trip to meet these producers, and see firsthand how amazing, and how challenging, the world of coffee farming is. Late last year I visited Colombia with the wonderful people at Raw Material, a social enterprise coffee importer committed to ethical business: 100% of their profit goes directly to the producers they represent, and they deliberately seek out smallholder-farmers and associations in the most underserved regions - places where the need is highest - to build stable, sustainable value chains rooted in fairness, quality and long-term partnership.
