Sheep Auction

Good size sheep sale today with 738 on offer. Quite a number of light sheep available, with a bit more demand for store lambs. Overall the heavier lamb was a solid trade and similar to last week, with lambs averaging €3.53/kg. Top call in this section was €212 for 7 lambs weighing 51kgs. A lot of cull ewes were on the lighter side in terms of weight and this brought back the average price to €1.82/kg. Prices from this section included: 4 ewes weighing 98kgs making €210, 6 ewes weighing 81kgs making €152, 11 ewes weighing 77kgs making €144 and 8 ewes weighing 82kgs making €150.

Scariff Mart Weanling Show & Sale
Saturday 5th September 2026

Our weanling show & sale was held today, with just short of 300 on offer. There was a lovely yard of store type weanlings made up of Charolais and Limousin stock. Super demand by farmers especially, with shippers active for nice quality bull weanling between 270-350kgs. Bull weanlings hit a top price of over €7/kg and heifers maxed out at €5.80/kg. there was a 99% clearance achieved in today’s sale. Next sale will be held Saturday 19th September which will include cattle & weanlings.

Big sale today with 926 on offer. There was a great selection of forward bullocks on offer, with beef cattle very scarce. Some great quality stores on offer and these held a good trade. There was a good entry of forward heifers in the 500-600kg bracket and these were back about 20c/kg on the week. Cull cows saw an improved trade, with beef cows up 20c/kg on the week. There was 15 cull bulls on offer and these averaged €3.29/kg as a CH bull weighing 1,070kgs made €3,920.

Our annual show and sale was held today in kilrush with a great yard of stock on offer. Mostly all continental fleshed cows on offer and these met great demand. More a mix of stores and beef in the heifer ring. A super yard of forward and beef bullocks on offer and these met a serious trade throughout for both in spec and out of spec cattle.

Reasonable size sale today after our show & sale last week with 444 on offer. There was some nice in-calf suckler stock and these met a fine trade especially for stock near calving. Top price in this section was €5,300, with many lots making €3,000 plus. The lighter runner bulls and weanlings up to 300kgs held a good trade and averaged €5.45/kg. Bulls over 350kgs were easier by 10-15c/kg. We also had a good entry of organic stock and these met great demand, with plenty of customers for these. Heifer weanlings back about 5c/kg on last week.

Sheep Auction

Good entry of sheep today with 638 on offer. A lot of ram lambs available in the sale and quality was variable. Trade improved today as lambs were up 15c/kg on the week and there was more appetite for heavier lambs. Quite a number of lighter cull ewes on offer, as heavy fleshed ewes were still hitting €2/kg and over, but average price in this section was €1.82/kg. Sample prices included 3 ewes weighing 103kgs making €225, a ewe weighing 92kgs made €222, 10 ewes weighing 74kgs made €150. Very small amount of breeders today and hoggets made to €225.

Bigger Sale today with 823 on offer. There was an excellent yard of mostly continental stock on offer and in the Bullock ring a lot of 2 - 2.5 year olds available. The lighter stores under 500kgs dearer by 10c/kg. Over that weight similar to last week. Heifers up to 600kgs dearer today and over this weight similar. Generally cull cows a shade sharper about 10c/kg. Just over a dozen aged bulls available and these averaged 3.22/kg with a CH of 1,020kgs making €3,620 and a FR of 620kgs hitting €1,820 and a HEX of 795kgs making €2,520.
