This recent spell of incredible weather has allowed us to catch up on work outside the tunnels and our beets, broad beans, peas and squash are thriving in the heat. Our bank of solar panels are also working on overdrive making us entirely self-sufficient for all our electricity needs over the summer months. Lots of lovely local veg available from 1pm-5pm tomorrow.

What an array we have today!

It’s so great to see our efforts over spring coming into fruition with so much of our own produce now ready for harvesting. Basil, beetroot, carrots, courgettes, cabbages, coriander, cucumbers, lettuce, mange tout, parsley, peas, rocket, spinach and of course the most delicious of all, new potatoes. Just give me a fork, salt and a pound of butter and it’s heaven in a bowl! PS tomatoes to follow in a couple of weeks… just waiting on the weather… local

We took some time out last week and visited our sister farm in Co. Offaly to help with planting this year’s crop of potatoes. We sowed Blue Danube, Carlos and Navans. This week, we took a sneak peek on the first early potatoes we sowed back in February in our own tunnels and they are coming on nicely and will be on our shelves in the next week or so!

Suns out on a glorious spring day! A day off school meant we had lots of help in the garden. Planting lettuce, cabbage and scallions that have been propagated in the greenhouse from seed over last few weeks and giving our peas some extra support as they start their climb. Open Friday from 1pm and on Saturday

Open today @ 1pm and for our Saturday market customers tomorrow, Galway City Council informed traders yesterday that Churchyard St will be closed tomorrow due to the paving works taking place. We don’t know where we will set up tomorrow but we’ll be somewhere! A Saturday morning treasure hunt with lots of lovely veggies as the prize at the end!

It doesn’t look like much right now but in a few short months we’ll have new potatoes available. This year we sowed Red Duke of York and the king of early potatoes, Sharps Express. We were delighted to get them into the ground this week. Thanks to for loading the many wheelbarrows of local manure that will fertilise this year’s bounty.

New Year, new beginnings but the same great healthy food. In summer 2025, my family and I made the exciting move to Moycullen from Dublin to take over my aunt’s successful organic farm business of over 30 years as part of a generational handover. Having grown up in an organic farming family, I’m returning to my roots after 20 years in the corporate world.

Síol Farm reopens this Friday 30th January (H91 FXF2, 1–5pm) and returns to the Galway Market from Saturday 31st January. We’re really looking forward to welcoming back our loyal customers and hope to meet plenty of new customers in 2026 and beyond.

Today we marked the end of Christmas celebrations and the feast of the Three Kings by spreading our farm with our biodynamic preparation made with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. We lit a fire to welcome in the growing season ahead. Tonight we will sit down together and celebrate Nollaig na mBan. Wishing all our friends and customers a happy and healthy New Year ahead and we look forward to seeing you all again at the end of January.
