It’s not every day a nine-year-old boy from Clare goes viral, but after chatting to Paudie and watching his Instagram reels, you’d understand why. Paudie Murray started his honesty box egg business, Ubh by Paudie, back in May 2026, and quickly became an internet sensation.
The honesty box, which sees passersby pick up farm-fresh eggs and leave the requested monetary amount in exchange, was set up after the young businessman was gifted a few chickens by his parents, and now customers are travelling from far and wide to pick up eggs and possibly have a chat with Paudie.
“I wanted two goldfish and my mam bought me two chickens instead,” Paudie said, explaining the start of Ubh by Paudie. “Then it just took off and we have 38 now.”
The box which stores the eggs for sale was made by the young Kilkee boy’s “granddaddy” but was “just sitting in the shed” until Paudie’s entrepreneurial skills took flight.
“We said, why not just put it up for the locals,” Paudie said, with his mother, Amy, saying that’s all they really expected from the endeavour.
While the success of Ubh by Paudie has gone far beyond the residents of Kilkee, with people from all over the word travelling to purchase eggs from the Clare boy, the nine-year-old entrepreneur isn’t affected by the fame.
“I’ve had customers from New York, Canada, Texas, Pennsylvania, Galway… Oh, speaking of Galway, I have a friend coming up that I met because of my page, he has four hens, and he’s coming up today for a sleepover.”
