Well done to our senior men’s team who had a great win over Gortletteragh away on Saturday evening last. The lads played some great football and won well on a scoreline of 1-16 to 11pts, with some great 2 pointers being scored. Get well to Niall McCabe who suffered an ankle injury in the 1st half, hopefully Niall will be back in action soon and also good wishes to Evan Ward from Gortletteragh who suffered a hand injury before the game. Thanks to all our supporters who came out in big numbers to cheer on the lads. Comhghairdeas to the team and management. In the next round we play Melvin Gaels at home on Sunday 13th Sept at 1pm.

St Jospeh’s boys U-13 and U-17’s both had good wins last week over Dromahair and St Mary’s respectively, Well done to both sets of lads and managers, keep up the good work. Keep an eye on our page for further fixtures info.

Aughavas 1-16

Gortletteragh 0-11

Aughavas secured their second win of the Intermediate Championship this evening, producing a strong second-half performance to overcome Gortletteragh on their home ground.

Gortletteragh opened the scoring from a free before Conor Canning got Aughavas off the mark in impressive fashion, sending a long-range effort over the bar for a two-pointer. Gortletteragh responded with two further points before Canning struck again, this time finding the range with his left boot to register another two-pointer and put Aughavas in front.

Adrian Shortt then added a two-pointer of his own, with his effort coming from around 50 metres out. Aughavas continued to build momentum as David Charles, Joey McBrien from a free and James Canning all found the target. McBrien then added a two-pointer from a free, while Cathal McNamara also got on the scoresheet as Aughavas took a commanding 0-12 to 0-04 lead into half-time - eight points between the sides.

Half-Time:
Aughavas 0-12
Gortletteragh 0-04

Gortletteragh came out with renewed purpose after the restart and hit four unanswered points, cutting the deficit to four points and putting the pressure back on Aughavas.

However, Aughavas responded in emphatic fashion. McBrien struck for another two-pointer from a free before stepping up from the penalty spot and making no mistake, sending the penalty sweetly into the top right corner of the net to give Aughavas some much-needed breathing room.

McBrien added another point from a free, before Éanna McNamara produced an excellent score from the endline to further extend Aughavas’ advantage.

Gortletteragh continued to battle right until the final whistle and added three late points, but Aughavas remained composed to see out the game and secure an impressive 1-16 to 0-11 victory, finishing eight points clear.

The result sees Aughavas claim their second Intermediate Championship win, with a strong all-round team performance ensuring they returned home with both points.

Football Matters

On Saturday evening last we played Annaduff in a home game in front of a big very crowd from both clubs. This made for an interesting fixture with Annaduff being managed by former Aughavas player Philip Charles. Annaduff asserted their control for long periods and were the stronger side but we fought back in the second half and after a great late comeback time ran out on us and we lost out by 2 points. Annaduff sealed the victory on a scoreline of 2-17 to 21 points.

Thanks to everyone who helped on the evening, the ladies in the shop, the parking stewards and those who prepared the pitch and surrounds which were in superb condition. To Enda Egan and his team of officials and as always, our loyal supporters we say a big thank you. Best Wishes to Oran Beirne, Annaduff who sustained an arm injury during the game. We wish you a speedy recovery Oran.

Our next outing is an away game on Saturday evening next to Gortletteragh at 6.30pm. We urge you all to come all and lend your support to the team and management in Gortletteragh.
