Russellstown Stud

Russellstown Stud Russellstown Stud was bought by the present owner's grandfather in the mid 1890s. It was principally a beef production farm.

In addition he bred show hunters and Point-to-Point horses and was one of the founders of Mullingar Racecourse. The present owners, Ann and Peter Downes, began keeping Thoroughbred Stallions in 1976 and over the years have built up a select band of National Hunt brood mares. To date they have bred the winners of more than 150 races including several useful black type and listed winners. The farm c

onsists of undulating limestone land. The broodmares and young horses spend most of their life out doors in well sheltered fields.
