While in Killarney over the weekend we took a detour via Waterville on our way home and paid a visit to McGills brewery. Our tour guide and resident master brewer, John Duggan took us through their process, the stories behind how their beers came about and all that was involved in making their wonderful craft beers. Most importantly we got to taste 4 or 5 of their creations, the Skellig monk was a real beauty, the barrel aged An Coireàn, aged in sherry casks for 9 months was another favorite and at over 12% alc it packed a fair punch.
Thanks John for a really enjoyable experience and I would definitely recommend it as a stop off if in the area. Looking forward to shortly relaxing with a few of the samples we came away with.

Shropshire lambs have been given the red card from the vines. Big difference between the these lambs and the mature ewes that we had last autumn, the ewes were much quieter and caused no damage to the vines. The lambs on the other hand took a fancy to the vines, we're startled very easily and in doing so damaged some of the vines, support posts and even jumped into the fruiting and catch wires pulling and straining the wires. A good lesson learned but back to the time consuming mechanical lawnmower again unfortunately

After being pulled out of the ground for the past few years so as to open up and improve access into the winery yard, we repositioned this old oak tree trunk in a more suitable location and I'm fascinated to see new little shoots emerging from it since replanting. Might be wishful thinking but wouldn't it be wonderful if it were to come back to life again 🌳🤞

With the Devils Bit to the south of us, the Slieve Bloom mountains to the east and Knockshigowna hill to the north we really are blessed with some beautiful views and scenery from our vineyard on this glorious summers afternoon.
