Eat Only Irish

Eat Only Irish Eat Only Irish Campaign 9th - 15th May 2011. Brendan, a farmer from Roscommon is gaining hundreds o Which Menu Will YOU Choose? So the challenge has been set.

We are also looking for people in Ireland and abroad to come and join us in this challenge. Do something different and make a difference at the same time. “Eat ONLY Irish for a Week” or “Eat NO Irish for a Week” or perhaps you are a Chef or Restaurateur and fancy a challenge, then why not “Cook ONLY Irish for a Week”? We will have menu suggestions posted on our website soon to help you out, so it

won’t be as difficult as you might think! We will have a list of Irish food producers online and some of these will be offering discounts for the week to help you with your shopping bill! So get the word out to your friends and relatives at home and abroad and come and join in this challenge! (We already have someone signed up all the way from Missouri in the USA!!)

How it started:
An innocent tweet last week from Brendan Allen of Castlemine Farm (Roscommon) has led to an exciting challenge for Brendan and he wants everyone in Ireland and some internationally to join in. Have you ever considered where your food comes from? Brendan does every day, and when he shared his thoughts with his twitter friends the Eat only Irish Campaign came immediately to life. Brendan is going to live on ONLY Irish produce for one week from 9th-15th May 2011 and to make it fair he is going to exclude his own Castlemine Farm produce. It is not going to be as easy as you might think... A cup of tea might consist of a few boiled nettles, fruit and vegetables must be seasonal, no rice or pasta and where would you find Irish salt and pepper? So to make it a little easier on Brendan and all the other participants, we are appealing to YOU to suggest menu ideas for the week. Details of where you can submit your ideas to can be found on Brendan’s website www.eatonlyirish.com. Menu suggestions will be available online very soon. So which menu will YOU choose? Will you eat only Irish or no Irish at all? To get involved in this weeklong challenge, get in touch with us today. It’s going to be a bit of fun and who knows we might get some really tasty recipes out of it! Looking forward to hearing your discussions about what Irish food actually is and how it should be labelled. Let’s discuss what supporting local farmers and producers actually means. Do we really want local food, or do we just want good food? The floor is open and the decision is yours – Let’s do this together! For more information go to www.eatonlyirish.com
