A little side project from the person behind Meshek 48 ❤️🍎🍯

I’ve spent the last few weeks creating a Rosh Hashana Activity Book for little kids—17 printable pages of coloring, games, recipes, mazes and Rosh Hashana fun for ages 3–8.

It actually comes from a lot of the same thinking behind what we do at the Meshek: I love finding ways for kids to experience Jewish life with their hands—to make it, taste it, color it, play with it and feel like it belongs to them.

And now it’s finished and up on Etsy! ❤️

It’s a digital download, so you can print the whole thing at home—or just print the pages you want—and have something ready for the kids over Rosh Hashana.

And if you know a parent, grandparent, teacher, ganenet or anyone else with little kids who might love this, please send this post to them. With something this niche, that kind of sharing makes an enormous difference.

I’m at one of my favorite places, at my favorite time to be here. The sun has just set and it is another beautiful end to a great day. We had two workshops today, the first a private pita to falafel workshop and the second an open pizza workshop. And the families here were lovely and interesting and interested. They remind me why we love this so much.

We’re renting our space out for Shabbat so David and I are back here with Dov for the final scrub down. I’ve found some Spotify playlist that fits the mood and am playing it just a bit too loudly. I’ve perfected closing the coffee machine and wiping down counters full of flour. David and Dov are mopping up.

I’ve snuck outside to catch the end of sunset, to avoid the wet floor and to take a quiet drink outside.

This place is magic.

Sometimes the best way to show an afternoon at the Meshek is to let the group tell the story themselves.

They came. They baked. They ate. They made the Reel.

One of my favorite things to do is to work with young people who have great talent and great dreams. Meet Meirav of Meirav Beit Or. I am completely biased because I have known (and loved!) Meirav from the day she was born. These days, she’s a grown up 😊, newly married to a combat soldier and she’s an incredibly talented baker. I’m hoping (!) that we can encourage Meirav to run a pop-up at the Meshek on Erev Rosh Hashana and sell her insanely good cakes to everyone. So help a girl dream… follow Meirav on Instagram and watch her grow 🩵💙🩵. Also toss out a word or two of encouragement below.

A month before October 7th, Yael and I found ourselves at Clyde’s Apple C***r Mill in Mystic, Connecticut.

It was perfect.
Crisp air.
Apple slushees.
Fall in New England.

So for Purim I tried to recreate just a taste of that moment — a little apple c***r stand on our kitchen island.

Apple slushees.
Frosé.
Apple c***r donuts.
Chocolate-drizzled popcorn.
Cinnamon in the air.

If Purim wasn’t going to look the way it normally does, I figured we could lean into a memory of a time when things were calm and everything tasted like apples and fall.
