To all Gujaratis, their achar masala mix, or methi masala as it is popularly called, is a ‘jack-of-all’ masalas, which possesses remarkable powers to brighten up any meal or nashta time. It is a unique spice blend you would always find in the kitchen and travel bag of a true-blue Gujarati. A universal masala as we call it, Methi nu Masala carries distinct flavors of fenugreek seeds and
asafoetida.
A scant sprinkle of methi masala on a ghee-smeared khakra, a generous sprinkle on khichu; dhoklas dunked in methi-masala infused sesame oil, a dash of it in thepla dough, methi masala in the bread loaf or sprinkled on buttered toast, masala coated aloo subzi… it is the most creatively used masala in a Gujarati kitchen.
At Smita’s Handcrafted Pickles, we strive to preserve more than a hundred-year-old traditional recipe our founder Smitaben had learned from her Nanima/maternal grandmother.
Pickle making is our passion; we take pride in the pickles we create and refuse to compare or call our Athana ‘bazaar jeva.’ Instead, we love it when our patrons revert, saying, ‘Your pickles brought back memories of my mummy’s pickles!’
Let us cherish and celebrate the wisdom of of our mothers and grandmothers ♥️
