From plastic dump to a living water body 🍀💧
We revived a century-old Oota Bhaavi (Well) with a 25-metre diameter , that had been buried under years of neglect. For years, nearby villages had dumped tractor-loads of plastic waste into it.
The restoration wasn’t easy. We excavated and removed 100+ tractor loads of plastic trash by machine and hand. Once cleared, we built 10-ft-wide bunds to allow JCB movement. Carefully selected large boulders from the site were placed to stabilise and hold these new bunds.
The final phase brought life back to the well — aquatic plantations, proper mulching. Vetiver grass and bamboo planted along the bunds for long-term soil and water conservation.
Today, this revived well holds over 10 lakh litres of water.
