Everyone wants to lose fat in certain places i.e spot reduction. It would be nice to be able to choose where you want to drop fat. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work like that. Some people will lose fat in their stomach first & thighs last. For some other people it will be opposite. Spot reduction is a myth, you loose fat from everywhere. There is NO diet or exercise that's going to help you in spot reduction. If you stay in a calorie deficit then your overall body fat will go down & you'll lose fat eventually from all the places . Strength training or any other form of exercise will help you reach there faster . Genetics will still be a important factor in how easy it is to grow muscles and loose fat though.

Don't compare your fat loss journey with someone else's. You can be doing everything right but might just take a bit longer to lose fat in certain areas than it does for other people. On the other hand, you probably lose it much faster in some places - Don't stress about it. Just stick to your plan and when your overall fat level is down you'll see that it was possible.

Most people do this when they first try to lose weight But the problem with focusing on cardio without lifting weights is that you’ll almost certainly lose muscle.

Which leads to a slower metabolism, Which means you’ll have to eat fewer & fewer calories to maintain the weight loss, Which you won’t be able to do for more than a few months because you’ll be so damn hungry.

Just doing yoga or Pilates is another issue I see all the time, especially with women who are either scared that weights will make them bulky, or are plain intimidated to lift weights.

Yoga and Pilates are great and have a TON of benefits. You should do them, or at least spend time doing mobility work on a consistent basis.

But they don’t quite have the same muscle-preserving effects that strength training has.

But what if I told you doing a little more mobility work and throwing in some cardio from time to time would actually make you STRONGER.

More mobility = movement through a greater range of motion = more strength.

And isn’t it obvious that having a stronger heart from cardio will help your strength training??

A balance of everything is key.

May be a: 2-3 days of full body strength training, 1-2 days of cardio, 5 min of mobility work before workouts, & at least 1 day off per week where you focus on low-intensity walking or some light yoga.
