'Lufthansa Senator Service' flights in the 1960's served Draught Beer 🍻

Many International flights serve decent beer these days, but craft beer on flights is still only limited to certain places in the world 😭

I have two questions for you -

1) What's your favorite beer that you've had on a flight ?
2) and what's one beer you wish they served on flights ?

P.S. - How cool would it be to be served *any* beer on a whole ass cask/keg on flights tho 😍

Continuing on the previous post from Red Rhino 🦏

These were the rest of the beers available -

IPA - Good American Citrus and Pine-y hop aromas and flavours, nice pleasant bitterness in the sip, with a tinge of an unpleasant Onion like vegetal off-flavor. Leaves a similar unpleasant hop bite in finish like the Rye Pale Ale, but drinkable otherwise.

TBD Rating - 6.0/10

Pina Colada Ale - To it's credit, this gives off aromas of a Pina Colada and there is a low Pineapple note on the palate along with a Coconut liqueur like taste - think Cabo from Goa.

Mouthfeel is on the fuller end, which works fairly well for this style. Mouthfeel is also significantly oily, thanks to the coconut. Aftertaste is low levels of Pineapple and Coconut fat and an oily coat in the mouth.

This is a wheat based beer and experiments like this with an otherwise over done style keeps things interesting for breweries imo.

Try this if you're here and encourage the brewery to make more such experiments.

TBD Rating - 5.8/10

Belgian Golden Strong Ale - Nice Orange and Green apple like fruity flavors. Low on the spicy, pepper-like phenols. A good drink!

What I didn't enjoy about this beer is the fuller mouthfeel. This beer should also be on the lighter end of the mouthfeel spectrum to enhance its refreshing factor, with which this beer would have rated a lot higher for me.

Red Rhino is one of my favourite rooftops spots in the city ❤️ A clear bird's eye view of the area from a usually quiet place is a perfect spot for drinks after a long day! Found ourselves stopping in after one such day filled with.

Tried almost every single beer on tap on the day except for the Wheat Beer.

Here's a quick list + review/rating of the beers -

Rye Pale Ale - Cheers to the brewing team for trying this style. Rye comes in naturally with a earthy + spicy bite and plays with the hop flavors really well for the slightly "adventurous" beer drinker.

While this is a decent attempt, the mouthfeel on this, like every other beer here was a lil too full imo. Fuller mouthfeel is great for certain styles of beers, but hop forward beers are best enjoyed on the medium to light side to be refreshing. Good Rye and Hop flavors - Earthy, Spicy, Hoppy, but the aftertaste has a hop bite that leaves an unpleasant taste.

TBD rating - 6.2/10

Stout - This is the beer I unfortunately enjoyed the least!

Very astringent - dry bitterness (harsh notes from over boiled coffee) from the dark malt and heavy solvent (paint thinner/nail polish remover like) notes. Feels like you're drinking a 12% ABV beer without the malt richness or complexity. Almost takes your breath away in each sip, but not in a good way.

TBD Rating - 3.5/10

Been saving this bottle for a while and 'cos it's a Hop dominant beer, wanted to open it by 2020 at the latest! Many good ones got opened last year and this one got forgotten 😬 Definitely didn't want to wait for 2022, so cracked this open on NYE 😂🍾

This is a limited edition beer that was only made in 2017 and never again!

Had a fresh one back in 2017 and it's an Imperial IPA like I've never had before or since, so wanted to see how this ages.

Unlike your standard Imperial IPA/Double IPA, this is low on IBU - around 50 IBU and 9% ABV, which means there is not enough hops to "lose" in aging, but enough ABV to help age it. The most interesting thing though is that this is made with a good bit of Rice on it along with SAKE yeast!! Very very interesting!

It's naturally a lot sweeter now than I remember back when it was fresh, a lil sticky as expected. Surprisingly, there is more hop character left than I would've expected, although mostly in flavor and not bitterness - Citrus and floral hop notes in aroma and flavor. I wonder how it would age another year or so, because there are heavy yeast aromas and Sake like flavor in the beer right now. I think more than I remember from the last time. Almost happy I forgot about this for an extra year.

Lagunitas is probably my favourite "mass" brewery. 'Probably' because I go back n forth a lot between Lagunitas and Founder's 🙈 But, it's great to bring in another year with great beer 🍻

Bira and Svami collaborated recently to make a Cucumber Kolsch inspired by Svami's Cucumber Tonic, which is also one of our fav tonics from Svami.

This is a collab we were personally excited about. This was launched at an event held last weekend to launch the beer along with a fun Make-Your-Own-Tonic session with Svami at Bira's Koramangala Taproom.

The beer has all the clean characteristics of a classic Kolsch - Soft, subdued, but nicely attenuated malt flavor balanced with a medium-low bitterness from the hops. The Cucumber flavor adds to the refreshing factor of an already clean and crisp beer - a lovely experiment. This is the kind of beer you'd want to drink on a warm afternoon with some light sea food, lightly seasoned fried chicken or a herb-y salad.

The only sticking point would be that the Cucumber flavor tasted a tad synthetic to the both of us. Somewhat similar to the difference between Juicy Fruit Banana flavor as opposed to a real Banana. This may not necessarily be a bad thing for everyone.

We rate this 6.7/10!

TBL after literally ages 🍻

Solid beer line up as usual!

5 beers on tap -

Belgian Wit, Hefeweizen, Weizenbock, Belgian Golden Strong Ale, Double IPA and Milk Stout.

Tried a lil bit of all the beers, but trying the Double IPA and Milk Stout in picture 👇

The Double IPA is brilliant as it usually is - Intense hop aromas and flavor in the current batch. Strong malty backbone balancing the bitterness really well, but the hop bitterness is more than I've had here previously - This is not something I particularly like or dislike. This is just an observation! I *might* however prefer the balance somewhere in between what it currently is and the one that I'm normally used to over here!

This is definitely amped on hops more than it usually is. Maybe even using a slightly different hop profile. Lovely overall!

Drinkability rating of 8.4/10 ✔️

P.S. - You're not gonna see too many beers in this rating vicinity 🤷🏽‍♂️

Milk Stout -

Both of us agreed on a couple things with this one - Doesn't have the typical amount of residual sweetness that most popular commercial Milk Stouts have. Reminded us both of another very famous "dark beer" almost all of us are familiar with. But, let's come back to that later!

The lactose adds to the texture, enough to differentiate it from other stouts you will have in the city atm. Flavor is very espresso like and less like the coffee and cream you would expect from a Milk Stout.

Now, we're not saying this tastes like Guinness by any means, but the lil extra creaminess from the lactose and the bittersweet coffee notes did remind us of a Guinness for sure.

Drinkability rating is 7.2/10 ✔️

Made a trip to Alchemy after a long gap and happy to see the range of beers on offer!

A Hazy IPA, a Kellerbier and a India Honey Saison along with the regulars - Belgian Wit, Pilsner and Stout.

First round was the India Honey Saison. My impressions - Not much of a Saison, not a lot of the classic Saison characteristics - almost no yeast derived spicy notes and very low fruity esters if you dig for it. Did have a honey sweetness to it and not too bad of a drink if you get past the technicalities.

I'd rate this a 5 on 10 on drinkability 🤷🏽‍♂️
