🌟 National Milk Day Celebration 🌟

Today, the Indian Dairy Association (IDA), North Zone, in collaboration with the IDA UP Western Chapter, celebrated National Milk Day at IDA House, New Delhi.
Several eminent personalities from the dairy sector participated in the event and engaged in insightful discussions on key issues related to the dairy industry.

The gathering also remembered Dr. Verghese Kurien, the Father of the White Revolution, and reflected on his remarkable contributions to the growth and transformation of India’s dairy sector.

Warm wishes to everyone on National Milk Day! 🥛

Female hyenas give birth through an elongated cl****is, called a pseudo-pen*s. This narrow passage makes labor very difficult—many first-time mothers don’t survive, and some cubs suffocate before birth.

Their unusual anatomy also makes mating complicated. With females leading their clans, hyenas’ reproductive process is one of the most fascinating—and challenging—in the animal kingdom.

Ocelli

The white spots behind a tiger’s ears, known as ocelli, create a clever trick of nature. When a tiger lowers its head to drink or rest, these spots appear like glowing extra eyes, fooling other animals into thinking the tiger is still watching.

Scientists believe these spots serve several purposes. They can scare off predators, help tigers communicate through body language, or guide cubs following their mother through thick forests.

Some researchers also think the spots may signal territorial presence to other tigers.

This fascinating feature shows how nature equips animals with smart survival strategies.

From camouflage to deceptive markings, tigers use every advantage to stay safe, protect their young, and move through the wild. The tiger’s “extra eyes” are a remarkable example of nature’s intelligence and clever design!

🧠 Even a mild case of COVID-19 can damage your brain.

A new Oxford study shows subtle shrinkage in areas tied to smell, memory, and cognition.

Researchers analyzed brain scans from nearly 800 participants in the UK Biobank—half of whom had tested positive for COVID-19, mostly with mild symptoms.

Comparing pre- and post-pandemic scans, the team found small but measurable shrinkage in brain areas related to smell, memory, and cognition.

On average, those who had COVID-19 lost 0.2% to 2% more brain volume than those who hadn’t, especially in regions like the olfactory cortex and hippocampus. While these changes are subtle, they happened unusually quickly—comparable to accelerated aging.

The findings don’t suggest lasting memory loss or severe impairment, and most participants experienced only minor dips in cognitive test performance. Experts stress the brain's remarkable ability to recover.

“The brain is really plastic,” noted lead author Dr. Gwenaëlle Douaud, adding that the observed effects may improve over time. Similar volume changes can occur with other illnesses or natural aging, but COVID’s speed and reach add to growing evidence that the virus affects more than just the respiratory system. Even after mild infections, the brain may continue healing long after symptoms subside.

On 14 November 1985, a group of scientists published a scientific paper barely two pages long that revolutionised nanotechnology.

Robert F. Curl, Harold W. Kroto and Richard E. Smalley discovered a new form of the element carbon – so-called fullerenes – in which carbon atoms are arranged in closed shells.

After a just two weeks of experiments they were able to produce clusters of carbon atoms. They found high stability in C60, which suggested a molecular structure of great symmetry; a surprising football-shaped molecule with 20 hexagonal (6-angled) surfaces and 12 pentagonal (5-angled) surfaces.

The molecule shares its shape with the geodesic dome designed by the American architect R. Buckminster Fuller for the 1967 Montreal World Exhibition, and the researchers named the newly-discovered structure buckminsterfullerene after him.

The Spanish coast guard rescued three men who made a daring journey from Nigeria to the Canary Islands while clinging to the rudder of a ship. A photo shared by the coast guard showed them perched dangerously above the water on the oil and chemical tanker Althini II.
The ship had travelled for 11 days from Lagos, Nigeria, to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, according to Marine Traffic, a ship-tracking website. Once rescued, the migrants were brought to port and received medical care.

The Canary Islands, a Spanish territory off the northwest coast of Africa, have become a major entry point for migrants trying to reach Europe. Data reveals that sea migration to the islands rose by 51% in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year.

In 2023 alone, over 20,000 migrants risked the treacherous journey from West Africa to the Canary Islands, according to the Red Cross. Tragically, more than 1,100 people lost their lives during these risky crossings — a stark reminder of the desperation driving many to seek a better future.
