A necessity to a hobby and so on..
Pitha guri, Bhim kol aru goru gakhir! (Rice flour, a highly seeded indigenous variety of banana and cow’s milk) - is a recipe of every household of Assamese society - a combination for good health, growth and strength for babies.
It began in 1980s, with the first born of the family, when Bogi (meaning ‘white’) became part of the family. But, it was the love for animals that drove us to continue for years, beyond personal reasons. Our nest grew, so did Bogi’s family; and taking care of them became an active part of our days. This extended family contributed in many ways - we distributed the extra milk among friends and family; used cow dung to fertilize our little kitchen garden, and flowers. As the word spread (on good quality, unadulterated cow’s milk), the neighbourhood came forward with their quest. And we had our first customers!
Slowly growing into a passion, we once had five milking cows. They were immense support in times of personal and financial crisis. Our love for them never stopped growing. We now have two darlings who shadow us in our little country home and sometimes act as ‘watch dogs’ too.. Imagine, two giant creatures chasing you the gate on a dark winter evening!! Yes, that has happened to homo sapiens who entered the premises unaware of their existence.
We feed them organic and they produce organic. We love them and they love us back. What we earn, we spend on them.
