Mullai and Jaadhi malli flowers are core-memories from my childhood. Just looking at them makes me smile in bliss. Be it Aatha's house or Ammichi's house, these flowers were an integral part of my childhood holidays. Every evening, plucking these flowers and helping our grandmas string them together was a joy. All sorts of stories were shared, memories were made and smiles were etched. At Aatha's home , all of us cousins and aunts used to climb on top of the cement tank and try to pluck as much jaathi malli as possible. Evenings 4pm were such a blast plucking them. Once they were plucked, we'd help Aatha string them together by grouping 3 flowers of same lengths. Once they were strung, we'd all run to wash our faces and all the Perimas and Athais and Amma used to quickly braid our hair and pin the sweet smelling poo on our hair. Then Aatha used to come keep vibhoothis for all of us and we used to look like chamathu kutties.
Anyways , Barnhouz's first mullai and Jaadhi malli is here and I can't help but reminisce these sweet memories. 🌸
