📍 The Yum List #1 – Sree Annapoorna, Coimbatore
Some places serve food. Some serve memories.
For me, Sree Annapoorna is one of those places.
Whenever we visited Coimbatore during our childhood, my aunt would take us there. There was a branch within walking distance of her house, and whenever she felt we kids needed a little outing, off we'd go. Shopping trips often ended with lunch at the Gandhipuram branch, making it a part of so many happy days.
The thayir vadai, sambar vadai, crisp roast, thayir semiya, the list goes on! Every visit meant ordering our favourites and discovering something else to love from the menu. But the real star of every visit was the rose milk. The glass would arrive with bright rose syrup settled at the bottom and chilled milk floating on top. Mixing the two with a straw felt like pure magic. No visit to Annapoorna was complete without it.Years later, I recreated that rose milk at home, and with the very first sip came a flood of memories.
After we eventually settled in Coimbatore, Annapoorna continued to be a part of our lives through its many branches. Today, my kids are just as fond of it as I am.
Appa often tells us about visiting their very first outlet, a small place where meals were served on banana leaves and people patiently stood in queues for a table.
So many years. So many generations. So many meals shared.
Yet Sree Annapoorna remains one of our family's favourite places, a restaurant woven into our story, one meal and one memory at a time. 🤍🍽️
