A weekend that belonged to Starlet…
Three of her progeny graced the race track on the most coveted days of Indian Racing, the Indian Derby weekend.
First up, her champion son, Time And Tide, retained the title of being the best sprinter in the country by winning the S.C. Jain Sprinters Cup (Gr.2). This notched up the 16th win of his illustrious career.
Next up his little sister, Lady Scarlet blew away the opposition in the Sir Homi Mehta Million. Good things to come from her hopefully.
Last but not least, their half brother, Sovereign King showed up to finish a game second in the Indian Derby (Gr.1) giving the farm our first podium finish in the derby.
A big shout out to Adhiraj Jodha and his team for doing such a fantastic job training all three of them.
Starlet herself was one of Eljohar’s best. We brought her dam, Cape Africa from Equus on a mating nick recommended by Major Nargolkar. This meant we in**ed to two blue hen mares, Runaway Bride 4 x 4 and Special 4 x 5. It also helped that Northern Dancer appeared in the pedigree 4 x 4.
Starlet herself was an expectational race-mare. She started her career in Delhi where she won everything and went on to prove herself in Bangalore. She won the Bangalore 1000 Guineas only to be disqualified later. Thereafter, she injured herself and bled during her prep for the Bangalore Oaks. Despite all her setbacks, she won 5 races and picked up two Gr.3 races over 1200 meters and 1400 meters.
Her progeny have excelled with both our stallions, Dali and Top Class all the way from sprints to a mile and half.
We will forever be grateful for all that she’s done for us. A true blue hen indeed.
