Before choosing an edible oil, take a few seconds to read the information on the pack.

Check the name of the food, FSSAI logo and licence number, batch or lot identification, and date information.
Reading these details helps you know more about the product before it reaches your basket.

An informed choice starts with the label.

Repeated heating can change the quality of cooking oil.

FSSAI prescribes a maximum limit of 25% Total Polar Compounds (TPC) in used cooking oil. Once the TPC level exceeds 25%, the oil should not be used.
Changes such as persistent foaming, a dark or murky appearance, and noticeable changes in consistency are also important to watch for.

Food safety includes knowing when to stop reusing cooking oil.

Do you know what information to look for on a Multi-Source Edible Oil pack?

FSSAI labelling requirements help consumers identify the product and understand its composition. The label specifies the edible oils used in the blend, their nature, such as raw or refined, and their percentage by weight.

For products covered under the applicable regulations, the pack also carries the declaration “NOT TO BE SOLD LOOSE” and is required to be sold in appropriate sealed packaging.

Swipe through the carousel to understand what the pack is telling you.
Clear labels support informed choices.

An oilseed’s journey does not end with edible oil.
Oilseed processing produces different valuable outputs. Edible oil supports cooking, food preparation and food processing, while oil meals are linked with livestock and poultry feed as well as trade.
Together, these outputs show how one seed can connect multiple parts of the value chain.

Science. Evidence. Better Health Conversations.

The Indian Vegetable Oil Producers’ Association (IVPA), in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), recently conducted two impactful scientific programmes in Hyderabad and New Delhi for the medical fraternity.

The programmes brought together medical professionals and experts to facilitate an evidence-based understanding of palm oil, drawing on scientific research, nutrition science and the latest available evidence.

At IVPA, we believe that informed conversations must be grounded in science—not perceptions or myths.

These programmes are an important step towards strengthening dialogue between industry, science and the medical community, and ensuring that credible, research-backed information reaches those who influence health and nutrition choices.

Two cities. Hundreds of medical professionals. One commitment — putting science at the centre of the conversation.

Before edible oil reaches the shelf, its packaging matters too.

Materials intended to come into direct contact with food must meet applicable requirements and be suitable for their intended use. The packaging should not compromise the quality or safety of the food it contains.

It is an important reminder that food safety is about more than the product itself. Packaging is part of the system too.
