Prohibitory Order Issued in Karbi Anglong to Contain African Swine Fever
, SEPT 22 | The Government of Assam has declared Eradighophani village under Howraghat Development Block in Karbi Anglong district as the epicenter of African Swine Fever (ASF). To prevent, control and eradicate the spread of the disease, the District Magistrate of Karbi Anglong has issued prohibitory orders with immediate effect. The affected area within a one-kilometer radius of the village has been designated as the Infected Zone, while all villages falling under a ten-kilometer radius have been brought under the Surveillance Zone.
In accordance with the order, no live pigs, pork, or pork products shall be transported into or out of the Infected Zone. Animal markets, fairs, or exhibitions involving pigs are strictly prohibited. Carcasses of pigs must not be disposed of in water bodies or public places, and any infected or suspected pigs may be subject to euthanasia as per the directions of the Veterinary Officer. Furthermore, all local authorities, including municipal and rural bodies, along with officials of the Veterinary, Agriculture, and allied departments, have been directed to strictly enforce the measures.
Within the Surveillance Zone, all pigs will be placed under intensive monitoring, which will include clinical, virological, and serological surveillance. The order also emphasizes heightened vigilance on domestic pig populations adjacent to forest areas in consultation with the Forest Department.
The District Magistrate has cautioned that any violation of these prohibitory orders will invite strict legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
