It is SUNDAY. The time of the week when I provide you with a glimpse of my farm life.
Today is about the agricultural produce that I get because my GAU ADHARIT KHETI.
Try and identify the crop in the pics. It is something that bears pods. When the pods start drying, they have to be plucked, dried further after plucking, beaten to remove the dry pod cover and get the seed from inside. The plucking is to be done everyday for 10 – 15 days at a stretch. Because what looked like green today, turns dry tomorrow. And if it is not plucked and collected it bursts open in the field and the seed is lost.
So plucking is to be done everyday, whether the temperature is soaring or dry wind (लू) blowing. Whether the humidity is so high that our clothes become wet within 15 minutes, the farmer has to keep toiling in the farm to get food for his family by growing food for your Families.
Farming along with being a tough job has many benefits too –
1. By walking in the uneven fields my balancing ability ,which should have gone down with age, has increased.
2. We have to stand, bend, squat, stand to spot and pluck the pods. Without going to the Gym I am keeping all my joints and muscles in good shape.
3. Mighty Sun God shining above ensures that we have our supply of Vitamin D. Though sometimes it is so bright that I have to put on a broad rimmed hat.
4. Happiness syndrome- when we spread the pods for drying and due to the heat they burst open with a popping sound it is such a happy feeling. The satisfaction of seeing the result of your hard work is the most rewarding experience.
Ohhh!! I forgot to tell you what crop I am handling in today's pics- It is MOONG DAL - GREEN GRAM
You want to experience this happiness, the smell of fields, the satisfaction on weighing the result of your plucking and to get your dose of Vitamin D in the open, adopt us as your Family Farmer and pay us a visit at
