Basically, earnest, honest, great tasting food, made with love and considerable labour. h, sweet smelling loaves, rustic boules, naturally leavened focaccia, teacakes, madeleines and celebratory cakes! There is so much flavour in a loaf of bread made from wild yeast or a cake with fresh flavours, that you'll want to just eat it right away. The Story of The Little Roti: When I was a toddler, I used to follow Dida (my grandmother) around the house most of the day. A bulk of her day was spent cooking fresh food, gardening, cleaning the home etc. I remember, she'd be making Rotis on the Tava (gridle), and she'd give me a tiny little ball of dough to roll out with my toy belan and chakli and roast along with the last roti she'd make. I would watch in utter wonderment at how a little piece of sticky beige dough could turn into a crisp, soft, puffy, white and sweet tasting bread. I didn't know then, but I was hooked by the beauty of making food. The Little Roti is an expression of that love for food.

Sunday fall bakes. Made a mini pain epi, olive, maldon salt and smoked paprika fougasse, mini white sandwich loaf and a whisky, coffee and dark chocolate pull-apart cake.

Dang! With all these new likes! I'm rearing to go but all my starters are over and so is the yeast. All I can make this weekend is literally little rotis! :) this is a flatbread adaptation of the Hawaiian Pani Popo bread. It's mildly sweet, soft enough to wrap yourself in it on a rainy day like this... and yummmm to eat when it's hot off the pan. #99

Rainy day baking and a new resolve: to make 100 different breads over the next one year. I can't say if I'll be able to stick to it, all I can do is plan the next loaf I will make. This is an oatmeal, bran and honey white mini loaf crumb shot. Next up: sourdough, spinach and nigella on July 4th.

Recent bakes...from left: sourdoughs with green olive, and cranberry and candied orange rind, both at 65% hydration. The third was a 38-hour slow rise, 100% hydration. The 2015 mother starter, and Nutella rolls.

Friends, fans, customers and all other bread and cake-loving people out there! It has been almost one year since I stopped posting on The Little Roti or making baked goodies for sale. And while I may only be able to bake on the weekends for now, I'm still happy to report that The Little Roti's gonna 'rise' again! :) get it? rise as in breads and cakes? :) Oh am so giddy! Happy new year everyone! Here's a favourite picture of the raspberry madeleines I made this year!
