Our opinion:
We at GreenBandhu’s Organic Farm beg to differ with Sunita Narain’s statement.
And, we also strongly feel & would like to suggest that we should “avoid” making such connotations, references & comparisons.
We need to learn from our past & from the “ground-realities” of the present.
What was said about “Waste”, “Garbage”, “Trash”?
Waste is Wealth
(Wealth out of Waste)
Garbage is Gold
Cash from Trash
Kachre se Kanchan
Kude se Kamai
What happened? What did we accomplish?
By making such statements, we are “further corrupting” the “already corrupted” minds of people especially politicians, bureaucrats, crony capitalists, etc.
Waste is not WEALTH / Garbage is not GOLD , it’s a RESOURCE
Soil is not GOLD , it’s a HOME (A living ecosystem that’s a home for billions)
Please DO NOT do COMMODIFICATION of Waste, Soil, Air, Water, Forests …
"Soil is the next gold — this is as down-to-earth as it can be."
In her latest editorial for Down To Earth, Sunita Narain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment, writes about why we need to rethink how we understand and monitor soil health.
India’s Soil Health Cards focus on chemical parameters such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic carbon and minerals. But soil health is also about the millions of microorganisms, bacteria and fungi that live in the soil.
Sunita Narain writes about the importance of monitoring the biological health of soil, the role of soil organisms in nutrient absorption, plant growth and yields, and the ability of soils to sequester carbon.
As she writes: “We need ways to monitor this biological health of soil so that we do not discount the wealth beneath our feet.”
