Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the distinguished philosopher, educator and the second President of India (1962–1967), was at the centre of a memorable moment in Indo-British diplomatic history in June 1963 when Queen Elizabeth II herself came to welcome him during his state visit to the United Kingdom. The state visit marked not only a formal diplomatic exchange but also a sign of deep respect for India and its head of state on the global stage. When President Radhakrishnan arrived at Victoria Station in London, Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by Prince Philip, stood on the platform to receive him with full honours. As the Indian President alighted from the train, the Queen personally greeted him — a gesture that went beyond routine protocol and illustrated the warmth and courtesy extended by the British monarchy. Radhakrishnan, renowned worldwide for his scholarship in philosophy and his commitment to education, had already earned admiration internationally as a former Oxford professor and an eloquent ambassador of Indian culture. His 1963 visit consolidated the longstanding relationship between India and the United Kingdom, symbolising mutual respect and shared values between the two nations. "उमर खालिद ने अपने भाषण में एक सवाल उठाया था जो आज भी कई लोगों के मन में गूंजता है। उन्होंने कहा कि राजनीतिक मंचों से भाषण देना आसान है, लेकिन असली चुनौती उन परिवारों के सामने खड़े होकर जवाब देना है जिन्होंने अपने प्रियजनों को खो दिया। उन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री से सवाल किया कि क्या वे उन लोगों की आँखों में आँखें डालकर बात कर सकते हैं जिनके बेटे, बेटियाँ, पति, पत्नी या माता-पिता हिंसा में मारे गए। उनका तर्क था कि किसी भी लोकतंत्र में सरकार की जिम्मेदारी सिर्फ कानून बनाना नहीं, बल्कि यह सुनिश्चित करना भी है कि नागरिक सुरक्षित रहें। जब किसी घटना में लोगों की जान जाती है, तो पीड़ित परिवार केवल संवेदना नहीं, बल्कि जवाबदेही भी चाहते हैं। आखिर ऐसी परिस्थितियाँ क्यों बनीं? उन्हें रोका क्यों नहीं गया? और जिन लोगों ने अपने प्रियजनों को खोया, उन्हें न्याय कब मिलेगा? यह सवाल केवल किसी एक नेता या एक सरकार से नहीं, बल्कि पूरे राजनीतिक तंत्र से है—क्या सत्ता जनता के दुख और दर्द का सामना करने के लिए तैयार है, या फिर केवल चुनावी मंचों तक ही सीमित रहेगी?" i
