Eight years. That's how long it's been since we bought this farm, and somewhere along the way, it stopped being a project and started being a teacher.

The biggest lesson didn't come from books or experts. It came from doing less.
For eight years, no chemicals have touched this land. Not a drop of pesticide, not a gram of synthetic fertiliser. Only what nature itself returns to the earth — fallen leaves, cow dung, compost from yesterday's kitchen, mulch from last season's harvest. We learned, slowly, that the soil knows what to do. Our job was simply to stop interfering.

And the farm has answered back, generously!

Today, peacocks walk through the orchard at dawn like they own the place. Snakes move quietly through the grass, keeping rats away, asking only to be left alone. The mango trees, heavy with fruit each summer, are home to an entire little world — bees at sunrise, parrots fighting over the ripest mangoes, squirrels busy storing their share. Butterflies drift between the flowers. After every rain, the frogs return, and the evenings fill with their song.

What we have here is not really a farm. It is an ecosystem — a small, living piece of the wild, where every creature has a place and every place matters

The greatest learning of these eight years is this: the land does not need to be controlled. It needs to be trusted. When we stopped trying to dominate the soil, the soil began to heal. When we stopped fearing the snakes, the rats disappeared on their own.

Eight years of patience. Eight years of unlearning. And the farm, in its own quiet way, has thanked us — with fruit, with shade, with birdsong, with balance.

Sometimes the most powerful thing a farmer can do is simply step back and watch nature remember itself.
