Samrat!
When you google or ask someone the top places in Jaipur to have kachori, one of the answers that you will hear is Samrat. And don't get me started on the so called food bloggers and food influencers who recommend this place as if there is no better place than this!
On a Sunday morning (when most shops in the walled city are shut) we headed out on the chaura raasta to look for Samrat. We had to put in very little effort as we could see a sea of people from 200 metres away outside the shop and we just walked there. After somehow managing to reach the counter we placed and got our order of pyaaz ki kachori and mirchi vada. We were surprised that the plates handed out to us had just the items sans any chutney. Only to discover that the chutney was placed in two jugs (which didn't look that clean), with fruit flies hovering around it and the location of these jars was right next to the shop's dustbin. Also there was a lot of muck around the footpath as people also wash their hands! Disgusted and angered, we skipped the chutney and had the kachori and wada on its own.
The kachori, I wonder why they named it pyaaz ki kachori when there was more aloo in it then pyaz. Felt like eating an aloo wala samosa seasoned with some onions. The outer covering of the kachori was too dense and very little filling inside.
The Mirchi Vada, all we could taste was the soda in the batter of the coating of the vada. We couldn't even finish this.
Don't know if it was the case of a bad crowded touristy sunday or if their kachoris aren't seriously good. I wouldn't go here again and wouldn't recommend this place. Also I could see only tourists here majorly (Well the photo and video clicking people dressed in Jaipur vibes is an easy bet to identify a tourist).
But we still had hopes of having a few more things for breakfast as we had to go to some hidden spots as well. Stay tuned!

Daal baati churma
When you talk about Rajasthani food, daal baati churma will undoubtedly be the first dish that comes to mind.
I was introduced to this dish long before I knew that it was a part of Rajasthani cuisine. My earliest memories of this unique meal are at my bua's house where atleast once a year there would be a family lunch with only three things on the menu, daal baati and churma! My Aunt's mother in law who grew up in Madhya Pradesh specializes in cooking this dish. And churma alone would be always made by my mum on ganesh chaturthi as an offering to Lord Ganesha.
To my surprise, my husband who is a tamilian and grew up in Coimbatore with friends from Rajasthan, is also a fan of this dish. So our first meal on reaching Jaipur had to be this. We were super hungry after a four hour drive and was the closest to our AirBnb so we headed out there. The moment I stepped in to this place I relaised I had been here on an earlier visit to Jaipur and I didn't have a very pleasant experience dining here. Nevertheless, I ended up eating here again but this time skipped the thali and chose just the dal baati and churma. This place comes across as a very touristy eatery (the kind where your group tour guy takes you) and is always very crowded and the service tends to get very slow. After multiple reminders and a long wait we finally got our food and the baatis weren't drenched in ghee, were dry and lacked any taste of ghee, a key ingredient what makes this dish that it is. We had to order extra ghee. The dal was decent. The churma was way better in comparison to the daal and baati.
On my next trip to Jaipur I would like to give this place a miss and try some other place. Do let me know where do you get the best daal baati in Jaipur

Jaipur travel, Day 2
We watched the sunset from Jaigharh fort instead of Nahargarh fort (an unconventional thing to do). And that was the best decision as there were hardly any people at Jaigharh for sunset and we enjoyed the sunset in peace with peacocks around, at Jaigharh fort. We then started driving towards Nahargarh fort and stopped at this small patch on the hills from where you can see the entire city of Jaipur along with Amber palace and Jal Mahal. It was beautiful. And Nahargarh fort remains open until 9.30 pm. By the time we reached most crowds had left after watching the sunset. We enjoyed the fort from inside along with a tour guide for all the information. And once again loved seeing this city in its full glory after sunset from atop the Nahargarh fort.
There are two restaurants at the fort if you wish to enjoy the sunset from here

Jaipur travel diaries!
On day 2, we began our day with some local and tourist favourite food spots (more on these coming soon) and headed to the city's new Palace where the descendants of the royal family still reside. Only the outside and a few gates and museum are included in the basic ticket and for a few more rooms to see you have to shell out 2k per head! We took a consolidated ticket which allowed us to enter Jaigharh fort as well. These two are private properties and managed by the royal family's descendants. Loved the four gates here inspired by the seasons. We also enjoyed a small folk performance by local artists here. Don't miss out on the lemonade from the palace canteen. Tasty and needed to avoid dehydration in the sun.
And then we headed to Jaigarh fort. It is on the outskirts of the city atop a hill built to protect the Amer fort which was previously the residence of the royal families before Jaipur city was built.
The views while reaching here were amazing. One could see amer fort, the lake and jal mahal. We enjoyed the sunset en route and also from Jaigarh fort. I would recommend viewing the sunset from here if you want less crowds. Nahargarh fort is known for sunset and it gets too crowded. From Jaigarh we went to Nahargarh fort after sunset and believe me it was magical. Nahargarh fort pictures coming soon.

Jaipur travel series!
We took on the road last weekend and the road took us to Jaipur. We reached Jaipur from Noida in just four hours with a short coffee and fuel break. This was possible thanks to the National Expressway.
We reached the pink city just in time for lunch. The beautiful gates of the walled pink city (the old city) welcomed us. The city was a vision of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and it is such a well planned one for those times. It has stood the test of time and there are generations who have lived and thrived in this city and continue to do so. After checking in at our beautiful home stay (a post coming soon) we headed to govindam for lunch as it was nearby and we were very hungry. The daal bati was not wow but good to fill our hungry tummies. The churma was good. We then went to the Govind Devji temple, dedicated to lord Krishna and enjoyed the whole vibe of the place. The way it came alive the moment curtains were lifted and the lord's statue was visible. It was followed by Aarti. A good experience. We then headed to the Jantar Mantar, another marvel in the old city. It is a place every astronomy lover should visit. It has instruments that can tell you time, that can give you positions about constellations and so much more. My favourite place in Jaipur. As the sun began to say goodbye the moon graced the pink skies and the city was lit up. Never miss seeing this city after the sunset. Visit the same structures after sunset as well that you saw in the day and you will thank me later. I ended day 1 with a meal that I will remember for years. Jowar roti with lasan chutney and kadi. It just stole my heart.

Food will always be my first love. you come a close second😉
Some plates of food are remembered over and over again, they find a place in your heart, they create a certain magic in your mouth, and the memory of which lingers. I ate a lot of things in 2025, both at home and outside and these are the dishes which were the highlight of my year. Some I had for the first time, some favourites that I returned to, some experiments with new ingredients and some just for that routine that brings some joy.
Pic 2, Jan: It's a dish made with sweet potato and palmyra shoot that I had in Coimbatore. This dish was the 2nd course of a 7 course chettinad style cooking menu. Absolutely mind blown.
Pic 3, Feb: This is the vegetarian thali in Diveagar. Olya kajuchi usal (fresh cashew pods) and val shengyachi bhaji are the dishes for which I will travel to Diveagar again. As much as kokan is known for seafood, these dishes prove that vegetarian food can also be a niche. Local cuisine at its best.
Pic 4, March: This one's a forever favourite. There is no better sabudana vada than the one at Prakash in Dadar. For good maharashtrian snacks this is the place I keep returning to.
Pics 5-7, April: 5, It's the coffee stone that I had as a part of the chef's tasting menu I still wonder how this dish can be made. Absolute genius, the construction and the taste of it.
6, My birthday cake that the fam got made from It had the love of family and the delicious taste of chocolate and fresh mangoes.
7, Mango sticky rice made at home cos the hubby was missing the one he had in Bangkok. it was absolutely an experiment and tried making it for the first time. It of course wasn't bangkok standards but a good try worth putting it here. has also made me a lover for this dish.
Pic 8, May: One of those nights when hot chocolate and some quality time together were craved. was our go to place in Mulund.
Pic 9-10, June: The milo french toast kicked in some serious nostalgia. As a kid, I grew up drinking milo every day. Milo taste just hit the memory spot right! contd..in comments

Pizzaaaa!
Always in the pursuit to find a good pizza wherever I live or visit frequently. A good pizza for me is something which is either a sourdough or at least made from fresh dough, which is hand stretched and has toppings that make sense.
This year I have had some really good pizzas in Mumbai (will be posting soon). And then I found a good pizza place in Coimbatore (my second home city) too. It isn't sourdough pizza but it's made from dough that is made within 6 hours (fresh dough). It is a restaurant serving Italian food in the Saibaba colony in Coimbatore. does some really good pizzas and pastas. We were on a post dinner walk and discovered this place and ended up having their margarita pizza (pic 2). Since it was from fresh dough the pizza didn't feel too heavy on the stomach and the sauce was good too. And for the weekend we ended up ordering more pizzas for the whole fam.
All the pizzas were good in taste and enjoyed by all.
So if you live in Coimbatore and want to have some good pizzas you can't miss this place.
