🍄 When should you salt your mushrooms?

If beautifully browned, flavourful mushrooms are the goal, timing matters. 👨‍🍳

🔥 Heat → Brown → Season

Give your mushrooms enough time to cook and release their moisture so they can develop that delicious golden-brown sear. Then finish with your seasoning.

It’s a small change, but it can make a big difference to texture and flavour. 🤌

Let them brown. Then season. 🍄

🍄 DON’T THROW THESE AWAY!

Those clean mushroom trimmings you usually discard can still bring beautiful mushroom flavour to your cooking. 🌿

Save the fresh stem ends and clean pieces, then simmer them to make a flavourful base for stocks, soups, sauces, gravies, risotto, pasta and curries. 🍲

Just remember: save only fresh, clean trimmings — never mouldy, slimy or spoiled pieces.

♻️ Less waste. More mushroom flavour.

🍄 NOT EVERY MUSHROOM HAS TO LOOK PERFECT.

Ever found a button mushroom with one side slightly flatter or an uneven cap? That’s simply natural variation. 🌱

Mushrooms can develop different shapes as they grow, and a little asymmetry doesn’t automatically mean poor quality.

So next time, don’t judge a mushroom by its shape alone. 👀
Look at the whole mushroom — its freshness, firmness, texture and smell.

✨ Natural produce ≠ perfectly identical.

Because nature doesn’t make every mushroom with a ruler. 🍄

🍄 PEELING YOUR MUSHROOMS? You probably don’t need to.

Unlike potatoes, button mushrooms usually don’t need to be peeled. Their thin outer surface is part of the mushroom and is generally edible. Peeling can simply remove perfectly usable mushroom tissue.

Just clean gently, trim the base if needed, and cook. 👌

Less waste. Less effort. More mushroom on your plate. 🍄

Fresh mushrooms. Simple preparation. Pure goodness.

🍄 Dirt… or something else? 🔍

Ever noticed a few tiny brown particles around the base of your mushrooms? Don’t judge the mushroom too quickly!

Small traces of growing substrate can sometimes remain around the stem after harvesting and handling. A little residue doesn’t automatically mean the mushroom is poor quality.

The important thing is to look at the whole mushroom — its appearance, firmness, surface and smell.

✨ What you see matters. What it is matters more.

At WhiteRoot Mushrooms, we believe good food deserves a closer look. 🌱🍄

🍄 Slippy or fresh? Here’s a simple check before you cook.

A little change in texture doesn’t tell the whole story. When checking fresh mushrooms, look at the surface, firmness, smell and overall condition together.

👉 Firm + fresh-looking? Good sign.
👉 Sticky? Take a closer look.
👉 Slimy + off-smell? Better to avoid.

Remember: LOOK. FEEL. SMELL. 🍄

At WhiteRoot Mushrooms, we believe knowing your food is just as important as enjoying it. 🌱

🍄 Why do mushrooms smell like earth? 🌱

That familiar earthy aroma isn’t a sign that mushrooms are dirty—it’s part of what makes them uniquely mushroom-like.

Fresh mushrooms contain naturally occurring volatile compounds that contribute to their distinctive aroma. One of the best-known is geosmin, a compound also associated with the smell of damp soil.

So the next time you notice that earthy scent, remember:

EARTHY ≠ DIRTY. 🌿🍄
It’s simply part of the natural character of fresh mushrooms.

At WhiteRoot Mushrooms, we believe that knowing more about your food makes every bite more enjoyable.

🍄 Why are mushrooms sold in packs?
It’s not just about presentation.

Mushrooms are delicate and continue to respire even after harvest. The right packaging helps protect them during handling and transport while helping manage moisture and airflow—so they can reach your kitchen in better condition. 🌱

Because when what’s inside is fresh, good packaging has a purpose.

✨ Good packaging protects what’s inside.

🍄 DID YOUR MUSHROOM JUST GO BAD?

Not necessarily! 👀

Ever noticed your freshly cut mushrooms turning slightly brown? That doesn’t automatically mean they’ve spoiled.

When you cut a mushroom, its inner surface comes into contact with oxygen. This can cause natural oxidation, leading to a light brown colour change.

So before throwing them away, check the whole mushroom:

✔️ Firm texture
✔️ Fresh, normal smell
✔️ Clean surface
✔️ No slime or mould

Remember: Colour change ≠ automatic spoilage. 🍄

A little browning can simply be nature doing its thing.
