England has no shortage of good Chinese eateries. While the dishes served here differ from the Kolkata Chinese I grew up eating, I sometimes find similarities that make me nostalgic. Like the Hokkein Fried Rice we had yesterday at this small but excellent restaurant, Good Old Days Hong Kong Cuisine, in Caversham, Reading. It reminded us of our favourite Mixed Steam Rice served at the eating houses in Kolkataās Old China Town. The only difference was that instead of steamed rice, we got egg fried rice here beneath the show-stopper sauce. This was the closest Kolkata Chinese we have had in the UK.Ā
We also tried their Stir-Fried Ho Fun in Malaysian Style and Stir-Fried Sliced Beef with Chilli, Green Peppers, and Black Bean Sauce.
The food was lovely and the service friendly.
