A special awareness campaign was launched today at MC Zone D under the World Bank project to promote efficient use of canal water and proper waste management in Ludhiana. Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur released awareness posters and flagged off a campaign vehicle to spread the message across the city.
The initiative aims to encourage citizens to adopt practices related to water conservation, cleanliness, and scientific waste management, contributing towards a cleaner, greener, and healthier Ludhiana. MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta, Joint Commissioner Shri Vineet Kumar and other senior officers were also present on the occasion. Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur chaired the 12th Board of Directors meeting of Ludhiana Urban Water & Wastewater Management Limited at MC Zone D office, Sarabha Nagar. The meeting was attended by MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta, Joint Commissioner Vineet Kumar, and other board members, with some joining virtually.
During the meeting, the progress of the Canal Based Water Supply Project was reviewed and directions were issued to expedite ongoing works. The utility company has been established to implement the World Bank and AIIB-funded project and strengthen water supply infrastructure across the city. The Mayor reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment under CM Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure safe drinking water for every household through this transformative initiative.

A proud achievement for Ludhiana!
Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has been honoured with the “Best Smart City Water Initiative Award” at the Global Sustainability & Innovation Awards 2026 held in New Delhi for its Canal Based Water Supply Project.
Funded by the World Bank and AIIB, the project is being implemented under the leadership of Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta, IAS. The award was received by Joint Commissioner Sh. Vineet Kumar, PCS along with Supertending Engineer (Projects) Sh. Parul Goyal.
The project integrates advanced technologies such as SCADA automation, VFD-operated systems, leak detection, and digital monitoring, ensuring efficient and sustainable water management. Once completed, it will be a milestone in providing clean canal water to residents across Ludhiana.
This recognition reflects the city’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and improved urban infrastructure.

On the occasion of World Water Day 2026, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, through Ludhiana Urban Water & Wastewater Management Limited, successfully organized “Doublothon 2026” — a unique initiative blending fitness with awareness on water conservation. Over 250 enthusiastic participants took part in the event, which featured a 10 km cycling route and a 4 km run, starting from the backside of MC Zone D office, Sarabha Nagar.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta. During the program, participants were also informed about the World Bank and AIIB-funded Canal Based Water Supply Project, including the upcoming world-class Water Treatment Plant at Bilga, aimed at providing clean and reliable drinking water across Ludhiana.
The event concluded with an inspiring message of fitness, sustainability, and collective responsibility towards water conservation.

Taking another step toward ensuring clean and reliable drinking water for Ludhiana residents, Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MLA Daljit Singh Grewal Bhola inaugurated a ₹4.5 crore project in New Moti Nagar under the World Bank and AIIB-funded Canal Based Water Supply Project. The initiative includes the construction of an Overhead Water Reservoir (OHSR) at Vishwakarma Park worth ₹3.5 crore and associated pipeline works costing ₹1 crore. Accompanied by Councillor Amarjeet Singh, the leaders emphasized the Punjab Government’s vision under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to deliver people-centric urban infrastructure. Under the World Bank and AIIB-funded Canal Based Water Supply Project, MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu inaugurated the work for laying a 1 km long water supply pipeline in Model Town (Ward No. 51), Ludhiana, at a cost of ₹1.20 crore. Accompanied by councillor Komalpreet Monty Sachdeva, he informed that the new pipeline will strengthen the existing Overhead Water Reservoir (OHSR) network in the area. MLA Sidhu stated that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, people-centric projects are being implemented across Punjab. He directed officials to ensure safety and timely completion of works. The ₹1,300 crore project includes a 580 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Bilga near Sahnewal.

A high-level delegation from the World Bank visited Ludhiana for two days to review the progress of the World Bank and AIIB-funded Canal Based Water Supply Project. The delegation, led by Task Team Leader (TTL) Rosanna Nitty, held meetings with senior officials and inspected multiple project sites to assess on-ground progress. The team visited the under-construction 580 MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Bilga village, ongoing Overhead Water Reservoir (OHSR) works, and several pipeline stretches across the city. Senior officers, including Chief Engineer Ravinder Garg, SE Parul Goyal, SE Sham Lal Gupta, Project Manager Gurvinder Pal Singh, PMIDC Environment and Social Manager Badal Soni, and PMIDC Social Development Specialist Sumit Arora, participated in the review and inspections. The delegation appreciated the project’s 22% physical progress achieved within just 11 months of commencement and expressed satisfaction with adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards. Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur reviewed the progress of the World Bank and AIIB-funded Canal Based Water Supply Project during a meeting held at MC Zone D office, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana. The project has achieved 22% physical progress within just 11 months since commencement on February 25, 2025. The Mayor directed officials to expedite the ongoing works and ensure timely completion. She also emphasized the need to repair all dug-up roads under the project and make them motorable within 20 days to avoid inconvenience to residents. The Mayor reviewed the construction of the world-class Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at village Bilga and overhead reservoirs across the city. She appreciated the efforts of teams working under strict quality and safety standards. The ₹1,305 crore project aims to provide a sustainable, safe, and reliable drinking water supply to the citizens of Ludhiana.

Reaffirming commitment to provide safe drinking water, the project in Subhash Nagar will install 1.2 km pipeline at a cost of ₹1.08 crore. It forms part of the ₹1300 crore World Bank & AIIB-funded Ludhiana Surface Water Supply Project, which includes a world-class WTP at Bilga, OHSRs, and citywide pipelines.
