Tapovan Farms

Tapovan Farms Tapovan Farms started as a sanctuary to preserve biodiversity. Then we started growing our own food in our backstead.

We follow sustainable farming practices based on SPNF techniques but also use essential microbes, manure, compost and other techniques.

Fruit fly control using Tulsi:
Crush a bit of leaves in the morning and place them somewhere you pass by a lot during your chores. flock to it and you can swat it easily a few times every day. Over a few days their number will come down drastically and you can enjoy your gourds and mangoes peacefully. This is an inexpensive way as compared to traps and such to control the menace.

The job of a tree herd is to create pile after pile of compost to ensure that his family is well fed. In this relentless summer heat is a challenge of endurance and strength.

This is how the view from the top of a 30ft ladder looks like while harvesting coconuts with a 20ft pole. You see me with a helmet and that's not funny. Every day a couple of coconuts fall on my head, arms and shoulders. This is the drawback of this method of harvesting as you are always standing directly below the coconuts and can't run on the ladder. The sun and debris get into your eyes and somehow you have to get the job done. This is one of the most physically demanding jobs at a coconut farm. May look easy but you need a good coordination of your senses, agility, strength and stamina. You are welcome to try your ability this week at our farm.

Last week, we harvested around 2 tons of compost. This week we are starting 4 to 5 pits again. Alternate layers of green and brown with cow dung and lots of activators. The challenge is to complete it in 75 days after which we shall have the monsoon. Hopefully we shall be able to turn it 3 times. This is the farmer's wealth.
